Breaking Benjamin: Here We Are Meaning
Here We Are Lyrics
I can't erase the stupid things I say.
You're better than me,
I struggle just to find a better way.
[Chorus:]
So here we are, fighting and trying to hide the scars.
I'll be home tonight, take a breath and softly say...
-
"So why are you so eager to betray?" He's asking her why she's so eager to throw the relationship away.
I've been there. It's when you're so fed up because you do care and love the guy but he's disappointing you in some way, like not being there for you enough or when you need him to be. So you get mad and fight him or say things you don't deep down really mean... like I'm leaving you.
"Pick the pieces up" is him saying calm down and let's fix this broken relationship then.
"I can't erase the stupid things I say" he knows he's guilty of saying things he probably doesn't really mean and shouldn't say. He's regretful and sorry in this line.
"Don't try to fight me."
It's a fight he doesn't want and one that he thinks he'd win. Maybe he's the one right and she's wrong but he really doesn't want to be a part of a disagreement with her.
"The beauty queen has lost her crown again" her crown or pride has slipped and he's acknowledging how pretty she is but is also seeing her hot temper.... and not for the first time.
"So why are you the one that walks away?"
He doesn't understand why shes the one who walks out on him. She takes her exit.
I've been there too. When someone walks out on you, you feel like you loved them more than they loved you the whole time. And you have this, "So you're leaving me?" pain that they cause.
"I'll be home tonight. Take a breath and softly say goodbye" it's him not giving up on them. He's saying no it's not over. I'll be home soon and we'll work through this. By showing up, you hope that you can remind that person about their feelings they still might have or did have for you.
He's not going to allow her to breakup or give up on their love. He's not giving up without a fight. Beautiful. He sings the song with in a way that depicts depression, concern, passion, love, and kindness. I freaking love it. -
I believe that this song is about loyalty, unconfessed love, and thoughts of suicide. Let me explain:
"Sing it for me,
I can't erase the stupid things I say," - The singer often says things that hurt his love interest, even though he didn't mean them, or didn't know that they would hurt in the first place. He wishes to take them back.
"You're better than me," - He deeply admires this person.
"I struggle just to find a better way" - He wants to let go, but he sees his love interest as superior to everyone else.
"So here we are," - He feels that their position of conflict never changes.
"Fighting and trying to hide the scars" - They fight, and they try to cover it up.
"Take a breath and softly say goodbye," - He threatens to leave his love interest.
"The lonely road,
The one that I should try to walk alone," - Contradictory to his threats, he cannot leave for fear of loneliness.
"Take a breath and softly say goodbye," - He comes to the conclusion that suicide is the only way, and wants the person to love him before he takes his life.
"You wouldn't like me," - If he told his love interest how he feels, the person would hate him forever.
"Keep moving on until forever ends" - He swore to be by the person's side until the end of eternity. Because the person will never feel the same way about him, he wants it to end.
"Don't try to fight me," - He wants the constant tension to end because it hurts him deeply.
"The beauty queen has lost her crown again," - Outward appearances and riches don't matter to him.
(Chorus) - See above.
"So why are you so eager to pretend?" - His love intrest often pretends that he and his oath of loyalty do not exist.
"Pick the pieces up,
Pick the pieces up," - He wants to start over.
"So why are you the one who walks away?" - The person often abandons him, leaving him in despair.
"Pick the pieces up,
Pick the pieces up," - He wants the person to find the scattered pieces of his love, realize how much he cares, and return to him.
(Chorus) - See above. -
I believe this song is about getting back together with someone you still love, not physically, but emotionly.
Benjamin has such a talent, his lyrics are so deep. Love this man to death<3
