Breaking Benjamin: Simple Design Meaning
Simple Design Lyrics
(VERSE)
I live a chemical life
I'm on a mission to try
You went insane for a day
I'll have to shove it away
My only option is gone
Smile as they break and they fall
You want a simpler life
You can't erase what was...
-
[You want a simpler life
You can't erase what was mine]
After listening to the song I think it's about a girl who wants to break up with the guy because she wants something more out of their relationship. He thinks she should have thought about all that before hooking up with him because he's not going to let her walk out on him easily [you can't erase what was mine]= you're mine.
The solution he proposed is simple. [I know what you want but you'll just have to wait]= I can't give you what you want right now so it'll have to wait. -
She wants a simple life but he's complicating things for her. He wants to live his life and do what's fun... living it up and sinning. He's not ready to run away from that life yet. He has nothing to say to her and doesn't know what to say... but she leaves him. He says "you're mine." They both know they belong together and he knows she loves him and will always be his. So she'll just have to wait until he's ready to come down from his lifestyle. "You went insane for the day. I'll have to shove it away" She flipped out on him but he says it's alright. She can have her cake basically while he has his. So what I get from the song is two people who were together but they start living their own lives, drifting apart probably because of careers. He's ok with it but he's also pissed that she's walked out on him "left him behind"... but he kind of has a whatever attitude because he knows she wants him and will take him back later on.... once they're both done living up their lives. I guess she couldn't just wait around forever for him... Or she wasn't sure if he'd even come back for her or even took her seriously. It sounds like it was an open relationship that she ended with him because she became serious about someone else. Idk.This is what my mind imagines when I hear the song.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

It seems to me, that this song isn't about marriage or love. I'm 100% sure that its about betrayal. Similar to Break My Fall, and Firefly, this song portrays the fact that two friends are breaking up in a betrayal act.
(NOT MARRIED COUPLES BECOMING DIVORCED COUPLES!) No, I mean that one friend wants revenge on the other friend for getting too much fame, or something to that matter. Overall, this is a great song and I've always liked Breaking Benjamin, but I think that it's interpreted wrongly. Using friends instead of married/divorced couples is definitely more accurate. -
Think about the song as a conversation between two people. Really jacked up, but I get it. We are not alone. Get it? Pretty cool.
-
Omg I get it. This song is totally about how hard we think life and relationships and objectvies are. And this is just a simple "fucking" design. We just complicate the things. This song totally speaks by myself. Cuz I always complicate the "simple designs of life" which includes this fucking song. This is just a simple design. U guys must be out of ur mind :d its objective :d nothing subjective or metaphoric is in this song :d

It think this song is about a couple that one of them wants to move faster.. like marriage or moving in together , And the other dosen't want those things, But still he dowsn't want to lose her..
Here is what I think:
I live a chemical life
I'm on a mission to try
>Maybe drugs are The reason to his objection And he's tring to quit<
You went insane for a day
I'll have to shove it away
>This idea is insane<
My only option is gone
Smile as they break and they fall
You want a simpler life
>By marriage or moving in together<
You can't erase what was mine
>My freedom<
You must be out of your mind!
This was a simple design!
>The relashenship is good as it is<
You fuck it up everytime
>By mentioning that<
How could you leave me behind
>How could you not think of him in this decision<
It's alright, it's alright
'cause I know what you want
but you'll just have to wait
If I had it to give
I would give it away
I'm living it up
while I'm falling from grace
There's no way, there's no way that I'm running away
>I cant give you what you want, But im not gonna lose you<
I'm used to making it worse
Made up of four letter words
You wanna know what it was
Now isolated and gone
You fall apart at the seams
I'll never know what it means
>I HAVE NO IDEA<
Try not to pull it apart
You're aiming straight from the heart
>Everything you do is from love..< -
I'm pretty sure the song is about quitting addictions and influences. He lives a chemical life but now he's on a mission to try to stop. A friend went insane from whatever and he'll have to shove it away. The chorus you must be out of your mind, this life is a simple design and so much better when your sober. But you fuck it up and do your own thing. Ben writes a lot about Christianity. The album itself has a person crying and it says We Are Not Alone.

Okay, seeing as Simple Design is one of the best songs ever, in my humble opinion, I thought it needed a page.
Moving on to the song part. This song is most likely about a failing relationship. "You went insane for a day, I'll have to shove it away" might mean that the girl is having problems of some sort, perhaps she is the abuser in an abusive relationship. However, "There's no way, that I'm running away" must mean that the singer really has feelings for this girl, even though "You f*** it up every time". A concise explanation to a complex song.
