Bruno Mars: The Other Side Meaning
The Other Side Lyrics
You're as straight as they come
You go 'bout your day baby
while I hide from the sun
It's better if you don't understand
Cause you wont know what it's like
Until you try
You know I
I've been...

God, you retards, it's about vampires, when they say "while I hide from the sun" like vampires hide from the sun, and it's at the end of the film 'Twilight' with is about, surprise, surprise VAMPIRES! I've never heard of something as stupid as, 'it's about him wanting his girlfriend to try drugs' LOOOOOL whatta sausage you are hunny :)

ya'll all wrong haha. okay in this song he talks about how his girlfriend don't understand him from his situation "you won't know what it's like until you try". The struggle of his journey he had to face to begin his career and he's trying to tell her she won't understand how it actually is unless she puts herself in his shoes. He's waiting for her to understand. I don't know about the 'vampire' idea came when b.o.b says he's a monster but he's not frankenstein he's speaking metaphorically but saying he's bad but he's not evil.

I think he talks about the illuminati thing. One part the say: "you can die if you want it, but baby what for". That means that he will die some day anyway and devil will be ther to take his soul. It sound stup for some people who dont know about this elite. But a lot of artista sing the same thing. Like Lady Gaga, Jay-Z, Beyonce, etc. That's why they are so famous. One day they will day in a strange way... Like Michael Jackson, he was an illuminati to and he wanted to don't be part of them anymore.

Ok, truthfully, I've poured over this song trying to find different meanings that could possibly fit it while still agreeing with his general personality, lifestyle, and morals. The least likely I've come up with is that he's trying to get the girl he loves/likes to try drugs with him. Maybe if it was somebody else, but since it's Bruno Mar's song and he's one of the few artists out there who are totally against the entire "drug idea" (Currently. I can't speak for his future actions) it seems unlikely. Another idea I've come across is that it's about Vampires and Werewolves, but I think that's more of a theme he was trying to work towards instead of the whole meaning behind the entire song. It just seems a little shallow for a song meaning (Even for a dude who made a song about feeling lazy). There's also the idea of "selling your soul for fame", which seems plausible, but I have too much faith in people to really believe someone with his talent would have to do that (Especially since he was raised in the business and probably figured out the tricks at an early age. It might not have been big time, but they have the same concepts, just a larger scale). If you're a bit more pessimistic than me, than that could work for you, but I'm leaning more towards the last two I came up with. The first follows the general mood and feel of the album and suggests that there's a girl who he wants to be with, but she's not sure (Or some other complication), so he's telling her that he's fine with waiting on her until she is. The last one I wouldn't really think of with anybody else, but with his early exposure to the "preforming arts" it actually makes sense. It's likely that he's talking (Singing, etc.) to a completely (Or moderately, whatever) straight guy (Yeah, guy) about his feelings for him, which is why he doesn't understand his own feelings (Previously thinking he was straight or always knowing he was bi, but never being able to figure why) and it's better that the guy doesn't understand (Cus I'm sure it'd freak most guys out to understand something like that) and why he's waiting for him to cross the line (As in, choose to go bi for him). As much as I don't want to admit it, this kind of makes the most sense. With his early exposure to bi and homosexuality (since he was practically raised on the music business), he could be a lot more accepting of that side of himself than other Americans (I can't speak for other countries, in fear of sounding ignorant). It's the theory that I'm banking on, but the other ones have just as much merit if you'd rather not believe he's bi... But if it turns out I'm right and he comes out to the world, I'll be the first to say "I told you so." Even if I got the song meaning wrong, I looked deeper into his childhood than most and maybe even uncovered a subconscious meaning here.
