Cage the Elephant: Right Before my Eyes Meaning
Right Before my Eyes Lyrics
Phony, false and frail
An empty ocean lost our way with no direction home
Golden needles names we take in vein
Find it harder to remain
And nothings sacred still waiting on that...
-
Getting Pleasure from the Pain...is getting a drug high from the Pain of the needle (Golden needles). Losing control. Golden needles names we take in vein. It is Vein and not Vain...Pronounced the same but different meaning. Holding your dirty hands over the flames...Drug addicts usually have to dissolve the drugs over a flame. Drugs. Plain and simple.
-
I initially thought it was about depression but my friend said he thought it was about a bad trip. He can't see past his eyes, falls through the floor, and can't take (the drug) any more. Probably about drug addiction and depression.
-
maybe depersonalization?
-
Golden needles? Probably drug addiction
-
I think right before my eyes should be taken literally, as in before his eyes is his brain, which is slowly losing its sanity. Holding his hands over the flames & getting pleasure from the pain means that he finds pleasure from any source of stimulation or emotion, because he's so lost in a world that's now so changed. He's strayed from his origin & now suicide approaches him as he falls through the floor, he can't take it anymore.
-
I just thought it was about a crappy relationship. He couldn't take it anymore and he's "still waiting for an explanation" maybe cheating..? Definitely betrayal. It was "right before [his] eyes" he saw the "whole world lose control" which the world could be his lover because they tend to be your world.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
-
The song's about drug addiction
-
A song about your world going insane from what it once was.
Not wanting to see the changes of what your life has become to the point of
killing yourself.
Something has changed in your life and you cant take it so you take your
life. -
I think he compares the world to a drug addicted that is going to let himself past away from an o.d. because he's "getting pleasure from the pain". I'm not basing my whole interpretation on that single line. I think the whole song show it.
-
i think something big happened in his life and how it completely destroyed it and how he cant take it
-
It's probably about suicide, my reasoning is he doesn't want to see change and he doesn't want to except it so he hangs him self (I fell through the floor, I couldn't take it anymore) and he says time goes bye meaning his death doesn't mean anything and no one will remember him or he will never be known by others.

Is this a suicide song?
