Sweetie Little Jean Lyrics

Sweetie Little Jean where did you go?
Everyone's been searching high and low
And your mother's worried sick
Dearest daddy lost his grip
While the whole world's watching
Candlelight vigils being held in silence
On the channel four
And...

When Matt and Brad were kids, they had a neigbor girl who was kidnapped and killed. Matt once said that this song is about her.
"While the whole world's watching candlelight vigils being held in silence on the channel four" - the story about her disappearance was on the news and a lot of people were hoping that she's alive.
"How long will we let it go? I think we should just let go" - after the girl was found dead, Matt, Brad and other kids were afraid that the same thing could happen to them, and girl's friends and family couldn't accept that she's dead. These words mean that he wants all people to forget about this and don't be afraid and sorrowful anymore.
"I want you back, let's get back. Lay my weary head against your bones, where all my trouble will be dead and gone" it means that he misses the girl and wants all this to be not real, because her death caused a lot of pain to everyone, so if she just was alive, everything would be fine.
"Has melancholy taken you for good?
You know that I would save you if I could" - he regrets that he couldn't help her and now only wants her soul to find rest.
"I pushed and I pulled 'til I pushed you aside. Now all that is left are the tears that you cried. I'm sorry love for all of the damage done. I only hope that someday to be back beside you" - he's slowly forgetting her, but still thinks about how she suffered when she was kidnapped. He just wants her to forgive him for everything bad that he's ever done to her if they meet in the afterlife.
