Cage the Elephant: Black Madonna Meaning
Song Released: 2019
Black Madonna Lyrics
She said, "There's no one here who can touch you right now"
Caught the last flight out at LAX
With your one-way ticket New York-bound
Climb so high, don't make a sound
Don't you forget what goes up, must come...
-
He caught her cheating,
while he was on the phone with her. Hence the Muffled laugh in the background..my Ex had done the same thing. the Hallelujah word you'll have to understand Leonard Cohens song named Hallelujah. in short, meaning it was good while it lasted and no hard feelings!! >•< -
"BLACK MADONNA" is one the 13 songs of CAGE THE ELEPHANT'S new album, "SOCIAL CUES" released in 2019.
In my opinion, this marvelous song is about someone who is faking who she is.
By the name of the album, we can presume that our "Black Madonna" is implicated in SOCIAL ISUES.
If you did not know what a Black Madonna is don't worry, I will explain you.
A Black Madonna is the name we give to a dark virgin made out of wood(in sculpture).
As you know the virgin is supposed to be beautiful. I believe that the chorus:
"Call me when you're ready to be real,
Black Madonna, hallelujah.
Makes no difference here so let's be real,
Black Madonna my black flower…"
It means: Black Madonna is covering who she is.
There is someone telling her not to cover herself because she is beautiful .*
BLACK FLOWER : We know that flowers are beautiful ,we also know that there are not many black flowers. I understand this comment is saying that it does not matter who Black Madonna is or how she behaves, she is still beautiful just the way she is.
*There are some songs from cage the elephant that are presented like conversations li ke this one ( another example of this type of composition is the son CIGARRETTE DAYDREAMS).
