Songs about 9/11
No, not the telephone number for emergencies, but the date 9/11. As in September 11th, 2001, the day, for the United States, when the 20th century truly ended. While other countries continue to be confused by the significance we place on this one event, Americans revere it the way they once -and have since - revered Pearl Harbor. There have not been many occasions where an enemy attack hit US soil, much less took out thousands of civilians.
It is ironic that we now have songs about 9/11, when shortly after the 9/11 attacks, radio stations voluntarily censored a seemingly random list of songs based on the notion that people would be offended by them. Americans are that weird about this event, which continues to be a hot topic of political debate over a decade later. But at the least, it makes a topic for music, which is how people heal, too.
