Coheed And Cambria: Wake Up Meaning
Wake Up Lyrics
I wish that I could stay but you argue.
More than this I wish you could've seen my face
In backseat staring out the window.
I'll do anything for you,
Kill anyone for you.
So leave...

#1 top rated interpretation:The beautiful thing about music is that it is open to interpretation. a song is written to relate to its audience and make them feel something. It is up to the listener what they feel. now, I have never read the comic that goes along with Coheed & Cambria, but I do love this song because I feel like I can relate to the words and feel what I think they are feeling.
my own interpretation is that he has to leave for whatever reason, but he doesn't want to. He would rather stay, but she feels that the best thing for him to do is to go. who knows why - maybe she is afraid something might happen if he stays or maybe she just wants him to go live his dreams. He loves her and wants her to know that even though he is leaving he loves her. He will do anything and everything for her. and he will do everything he can to make it back to her arms. "keep yourself intact" I think refers to the fact that he doesn't want her to go crazy missing him and he wants her to keep living her life. but he will come back soon and it will be a new day where they can start out fresh and they will be like they always were, completely enveloped in their love for each other. No matter what happens he will always love her.
Now, this is what I see when I hear this song. I have a few biases but I still love it. I think it is important that we realize that different songs mean different things to different people at different times in their lives. So don't tell me that what I think is wrong because this song is actually based on happenings in a comic book. even if it is the writer may have meant for it to mean something more to his listeners than just a comic book reference. -

#2 top rated interpretation:I think it is that claudio, coheed and cambrias son, is leaving because his girlfriend, newo, did something, but he has to go because if he stays with her, she's just going to hurt him more, she argues about him leaving because she is sorry for what she does, and the more she appologizes the more he loses respect for her, wich makes him want to leave more.
and the part about him "waking up" I think he just wants things to go back to normal before she ever did anything to him, as if it were a dream.
you kind of have to read coheed and cambria's comic book to even think about understanding anything. -

#3 top rated interpretation:I'm not 100% sure that I know what this song is saying but here's what I think.
He's going away somewhere not because he wants to, but because she wants him to.
"I'm going to ride this plane out of your life again.
I wish that I could stay but you argue.
More than this I wish you could've seen my face
In backseat staring out the window."
Then he just talkes about how much he loves her and when he "wakes up" they be together forever.
What do you think? -
and for Cambria 55... hes not defending heavens fence... as THE CROWING... he needs to destroy it... he needs to destroy everyone. thats why Ambellina is there... to guide him to destroy!!
-
No, dude. Sorry, but your dumb. This song is saying that Claudio is going after Wilhem Ryan and hes leaving her behind because one, he doesnt want her to die, and two if shes awake when he leaves, she wont let him leave without her... which would be a problem. he wants her to fight the last fights and just keep hoping that they'll meet again.

I listened to this song while my husband was deployed to Afghanistan. I know nothing about the comic or anything so my interpretation is personal. It just fit... The line "I wish that I could stay/ But you argue" means He wishes he could stay but she argues that he would rather go because he has to. My husband knew that deploying was his job ad that he had to go but like most army wives I hated the fact that he had to go... And if anything happened to him he is telling her to move on and not dwell to hard on his death because he will always love her in death.

I just think that it's saying like
i wish you had an idea about how much I love you
but you like want me to leave and it's for the best
so rock on. -
Hm. The song seems to be about a man being asked to leave by his girlfriend, when he is still madly in love with her and hoping for this to work out and for her to "wake up".
Although something struck me when I first heard it... The lyrics "Leave yourself intact" and "a phrase to cut these lips" just seemed to me to be about celibacy and virginity- to ask her to stay a virgin and "leave herself intact" for him so to speak. -
I feel that this is the writer's feeling for Erica, in a way how he feel and that he will always love her, even through all that she has done and that even when he dies, or is killed, or becomes the crowning, he loved her and he always did. The plane is just metaphorical for him having to leave because of what she did.

I haven't read this far into the novels, but I really really thought that this was about Claudio the character leaving for a war or battle. Which is why he says he wants to stay but she argues. As in he doesn't want to die, but she knows it will be better for the rest of the Keywork if he goes. That is also why he says he won't be coming back and he will be coming back and "kill anyone for you." And "If morning never comes for either one of us," I figured was if the Keywork was destroyed. Feel free to critique, I'm not really that confident about my interpretation.
And EVERY Co&Ca is about the novel. This one might have inspirationally been from Claudio Sanchez's personal life, but he made it fit with the story. Which is reasonable for any writer to do. -
This song is about the writer of the story. Through out good apollo he is slowly going crazy and thinks he's actually becoming his story. This song in particular is about a time he recalls when he watched his love cheat on him, causing him to leave her. It's explained in the graphic novel for good apollo.

Every song on second stage turbine blade, secret of silent earth: 3, and good apollo are all based on claudio sanchez's science fiction storyline (to an extent the graphic novels themselves, but those are relatively unfinished, and are meant to accompany the songs to tell the whole story). The songs particularly on good apollo break away from the plot of the keywork initially to introduce the character of claudio the writer. This claudio exists outside the world of the keywork (the "real" world) and is the one responsible for writing the story that goes on during the first 2 cd's. This claudio is filled with anger and remorse over the timultuous relationship with is girlfriend, erica court. He reflects these feelings in the story itself: newo ikkin represents the lying, cheating side of erica, while ambellina represents everything claudio wanted erica to be. "wake up" is basically a love song. Claudio is travelling on a plane, reflecting on how much he loves erica, despite how she's hurt him.

Since this CD corresponds with the 2nd released comic book, this song is probably about the writer rather than Claudio. The first volume of Good Apollo is where the life of the writer is shown to relate to the story. All the pain in his life is then lashed out into the Keywork universe.
I'm actually confused about what the person above said about not every CoCa song is about their stories. Which ones so far haven't been? I know for certain every song from The Second Stage Turbine Blade have been and I'm fairly sure all the ones from In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 have been. The only songs I could think of that wouldn't have been from the storyline could be the Penelope EP back before they called themselves Coheed and Cambria. I'm really curious as to which ones you were implying. -
Maybe, this could be claudio using the words 'waking up' in the realisation sense.
I personally don't really know whether this is Claudio's thoughts or the writer's thoughts.
The writer lives in another dimension and has been responsible for everything so far (I think).
We know he hates Ms. Erica Court for cheating on him so maybe that's what this is.
