Coldplay: Fix You Meaning
Song Released: 2005
Fix You Lyrics
Fix You
When you try your best but you don't succeed
When you get what you want but not what you need
When you feel so tired but you can't sleep
Stuck in reverse
And the tears come streaming down your face
When you lose...

The most comforting lyric that releases me from the need to hold in painfull emotions is "lights will guide you home" My home cannot be found in this life. No matter who shows up. I have no expectations. Just as long as I truly can release everything and be free of hurt. Home.

I spent the past year locked in a one sided relationship with my best friend. I loved him, he used me for whatever. I would wait for replies that never came, and I fell harder everyday for him, no matter the pain he put me through. this song lifted me up, dried my tears, and pushed him totally out of my life. thanks so much this song means a lot to me <3

I got this tattooed on my side. "Lights will guide you home" i am traveling a lot and i don't get to see my family all the time but i kniw that if i need them lights will always guide me back to them because they will forever be my home and know how to fix me.

This song was specifically written for his wife who had just lost her father. Though this song was written for other purposes I have found that it applies to many situations in my life.
"When you love someone but it goes to waste"
This could apply to you loving someone, but them not returning the feelings. All around this is a beautiful song that has helped me get through many a broken heart situations. (ex.right now) :) enjoy this beautiful song! -
I grew up listening to this. When I was younger, my hamster died and I remember tears "streaming, down (my) face" because it seemed like the biggest tragedy. The thing is, as I've grown older and listened to more of Coldplay's songs, I recognize more of what they mean to me.
For me, this will always be a song of melancholy and morose feelings of being unable to help the person you love. Whether it be a best friend, family member, or your significant other, when you can't "fix" them, it breaks your heart. Their pain is yours.
Nonetheless, "lights will guide you home" and hopefully they'll "try to fix you". This song is amazing and relateable in millions of different scenarios! -
For many years, I imagined this song as the words from someone comforting a grieving loved one. The song expressed their ability to scoop up (physically and metaphorically) the pain of their loved one and try to help them put themselves together again. This makes sense given the story about Chris and the death of Gwyneth's father.
Recently though, I realized that maybe "Fix You" isn't just about a person loving someone so much that they will be there, no matter what, to fix them. Listening to the song now, I feel like the lyrics could be the words a broken person would say to themselves when they feel abandoned by the ones they love. That even if there is no one else, that you love yourself enough that you won't give up hope. It is a promise to oneself. To me, this is the most beautiful promise. To love oneself enough not to hurt oneself, to not give up hope, to try to fix themselves. It's much easier to let others "fix you" and to need the love of others to feel complete. No one really thinks about the importance of accepting yourself and loving yourself. -
I do believe he is summing up how I feel going through my breakup right now.

I can relate to this song and I listen to it on the bus every day because it is uplifting and comforts my heart. Here's how I relate to the song:
When you try your best but don't succeed
(I tried everything I possibly could to win this girl over after eventually failing the first time - holiday romance)
When you get what you want but not what you need
(I have everything in life but the one thing I need - her - I don't have)
When you feel so tired but you can't sleep
(I can't stop thinking about her)
Stuck in reverse
(I'm living in the past and I can't move on. Life is at a standstill)
And the tears come streaming down your face
(I cry myself to sleep)
When you lose something you can't replace
(Her - who I think is irreplacable)
When you love someone but it goes to waste
(I love her so much but she has moved on)
Could it be worse?....
And high above or down below
(It doesn't matter whether I'm here or there - we live a world apart)
When you're too in love to let it go
(The most meaningful verse because I'm too in love to let her go)
But if you never try you'll never know
(Self-explanatory. If I don't let go I may have missed out on what/who my future love life may be)
Just what you're worth
(I deserve better because she left you)... -
I think what this song is trying to say, is that no matter what happens, if you lose someone or something you love, there will always be someone there to support you. ('Fix You')Also, that there you can always find comfort in the people you love and the people who love you.

This could be interpreted in any way you want.
But from what I've heard,Chris wrote this for his wife, Gwyneth. Gwyneth's father died, and she came home from hospital, in tears, and Chris asked what he could do, and said 'Hold me close. Only you can fix me now'. So he wrote the song the next day.
How sweet?! I find once you know the meaning of a song, it really hits you. When I found out the meaning of Yellow, the next time I heard it I burst into tears - embarassingly in public! :/ -
In the video, at the end, when the crowd sings the chorus, to me it shows how everyone felf pain and grief too, and that even if it feels like no one understands, everyone does. hhat I just said sounded better in my head. :P

I think it is about Gwyneth's dad dying, but
listen through and through about five times. I felt like Chris Martin was telling me, "Everything will be alright. Let me fix you." I had just been broken up with, and I wad crying at first, because it felt like he was telling me I was too sad to fix. But then the second part, "Lights will guide you home, and ignite your bones, and I will try to fix you", felt like he was giving a comforting hug through song. :) -
I think it is about parents who have grown up kids but want them to know whatever mistakes or heartbreak they have they can always come home and they will try make them feel better
-
This song WAS written after Paltrow's father died. However, it is designed to be flexible to many situations. The gist could not be more clear: "I will try to fix you." It's a friend/brother/sister/son/daughter/boyfriend/girlfriend/husband/wife/ etc. saying "Come to me, and I'll patch your wounds. I'll make you better. I will try to Fix You."
