Fix You Lyrics

Coldplay
Fix You

When you try your best but you don't succeed
When you get what you want but not what you need
When you feel so tired but you can't sleep
Stuck in reverse

And the tears come streaming down your face
When you lose...

I know that it was written for his wife after her father died, but for me, I think of my friend's little brother who died two days ago. My school's singing group was singing the lyrics "lights will guide you home" when he died in a car accident.

This for sure is about Paltrow's father......I give her my deepest sympathy.

But has anyone thought how this applies to EVERYDAY life? Seriously, think hard about it. Every day, we go through the good and bad. This song to me means much more than sympathy.

If there is sadness, not only can you fix it, but it can fix you in a way that you may not have thought about. It teaches you to overcome new challenges. Life itself is a challenge. It opens you up to the real world, not just a world of eternal happiness. What would we be without sadness? Nothing, for we would not know joy without sorrow. In the real world, the fabulous, gleaming Vegas you see in your head or the brightly lit New York City in your mind don't have sorrow, for they are things you imagine. But if you are in Vegas, many times if you gamble, you will lose lots of money. Same with NYC.

Enjoy sorrow while you have it, for heaven will be your and all sadness will be vanquished.

    I will try............to fix..............you.

I agree with everyone that this song is fantastic and speaks to everyone in it's own way. My personal interpretation is that the song is about the ultimate unconditional love that one person can have for another. The type of love that will always be there no matter what and will always make you want to help, comfort, heal your loved one whenever they feel any kind of heartache, pain, disappointment, insecurity or fear. It is the kind of love that makes you desperately want to try to 'fix' any problem that the person you love might be experiencing.
When I heard this song for the first time, it immediately made me think of my son (only child) who was at the time, getting ready to leave the house and go off to college. I was soooo moved that it made me cry....why? not because of the reasons most people have stated, but because it so perfectly expressed what I wanted my son to know as he got ready to conquer the world as his own individual...that I would be there for him FOREVER AND NO MATTER WHAT! That if there was ever a time that he felt defeated or disappointed or hurt or lonely, or unloved that all he had to do was come HOME and I would be there to comfort, love, encourage, uplift and 'fix' him in any way that he needed me to. It is a song of hope sung to a loved one who is suffering in some way and it is trying to say to them....I know life is hard and that you may have times that you feel like you can't go on...but you need to know that I will ALWAYS be there for you no matter what the situation and will love you, no matter what you have been through!

I think this is about being there for someone. I have two sons and these words fit from me to them to let them know I am always there for them no matter what happens....even when I am not perfect(i will learn from my mistakes)I will still always do my best to be there to fix them when they need it. It's having unconditional love for them.

'tears stream down your face when you loose something you cannot replace' - I think this song is about depression (when you're ...down below). Because they mention that 'you get what you want but not what you need' and when one is in the darkness of depression you can win a million dollars - it won't help. You feel like a total failure, sometimes you can't sleep at all. Love feels worthless - you feels worthless. The only thing that can get you through is the little flicker of hope and love from others. 'Lights will guide you home and ignight your bones and I will try and fix you'.
Depression can only be 'fixed' from inside.

This song touched my situation in every verse and although it was nec a death of a person it was a death of a relationship....I was married for 15 year with two children and my wife decided one day she didn't want to be married ans started cheating and treating me badly...the love but can't let go was me as I stayed for almost two years trying to save it...we are now divorced and the stuck in reverse is def me too....I am having a had time moving on...everyverse just drips of how I feel....the light verse to me good be giving it up to god and letting him reignite your bones....just another take on the song and shows how versitle the lyrics can be....there are several other songs on this album that I can def relate to with my situation....

I don't believe this song is talking about death, I think this song talks about, very simply, great loss. Its different for everyone, some its a parent passing away and for others its a friend. But the reason I say its not just death is this. About 2 years or so ago my best friend, who is like a brother to me, had a girlfriend whom he cherished and loved deeply. The two tried separating twice because they felt it was for the best but always came back to each other in the end. There was no keeping them apart it seemed...but these things only last for so long. She left him for the last time and never came back, he told me it was fine and that he was ok, I would have believed him had he not shown the spot he meant to propose to her maybe four minutes before. He acted as if nothing could phase him and that there was no way this break up could have bothered him. He told me these things but I knew better, he kept a box of things that reminded him of her ("Stuck in reverse" as I think means to live in the past). The only reason I bring this up is this- We were both at my house about a year ago and he was talking about her once again, something they had done at the beach I think, and I decided to show him this song. I told him to listen to the words and bear with me through it, since he's not the biggest coldplay fan, and by the end of the song he had broken down and was crying on my bedroom floor. I didn't do it for that reason or to show him a good song. I did it to fix him, fix him in the sense that he needed to realize it really did bother him and that he needed to stop living in the past. I'm just glad coldplay was able to put in a song what I couldn't put in words. So I say this to anyone trying to "Define" the song; let it be what it has to be for anyone who listens to it, let it comfort those in need of comforting or reassure those who need reassuring. Just let it be what it has to.

When I listen to this song it reminds me of a scene in a book I wrote where a character is trying to help someone he cares deeply for had chosen someone else, but he broke her heart and left her. And he's trying to help mend her heart. I wrote that before I'd ever heard this song, and when I was looking for songs for my book to help inspire me a bit more I came across it,and it fit perfectly with what he'd say to her.
He's telling her, "I"m going to help fix you, I know you've been hurt, you haven't gotten what you wanted, been trampled on, but I'm here, and I'm not leaving, and I'm going to stick by you until you're better and beyond."

I have a 5 mos old baby, and this song now reminds me of a mother's love. My daughter is always crying and I am always trying to fix her. What I love about the song is that I know it will remind me of her through out her toddler stage, adolescence stage, and even into her adulthood. Such a beautiful song!

My mom was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer when I was 7. Having so much weight on me as a kid, made me grow up super fast. I know that when I saw her miserable and in pain, all I wanted for her..was to feel better. I would've done anything to fix her. I think that's what this songs about..about when you know someone who's going through horrible things that aren't under your power, you want to fix them and take that stress and worry off of them, so they can be happy. No one wants someone they love to live in hopelessness.

This song is basically an extremely sad song it reminds me of life from the first few lyrics when you try your best and don't succeed to me it means you can try and try and try but you won't always succeed and a lot of people get what they want but aren't happy with I know I'm not :( this song makes me cry but its powerful

While I do think this song was written for Gwyneth, I, being a teenager, interpreted it as trying to get up the nerve to do something about your current love interest. The lines "When you're too in love to let it go" being the fear of rejection and wanting to cling onto your mental image of someone, "But if you never try you'll never know Just what you're worth" being that motivation to do something so you won't always wonder."And the tears come streaming down your face When you lose something you can't replace" being losing said mental image, and "When you love someone but it goes to waste Could it be worse?" being to scared to do anything about it or the disappointment of rejection.

Well you see this song is about my gay porno I made in 2004. It needed fixing so the writer wanted to fix it. He hid the actual meaning I'm giving with his loverboy meaning. So next time you hear this song, think about Big Al's gay shoppe porno-matagraphy

I was raped and this song just reminded me of it so much.I loved the guy that raped me soo much before hand and he had gotten into bad habbits so i was always trying to fix him.her is my interpretation of the song:

When you try your best but you don't succeed
    (My grades)
When you get what you want but not what you need
(Unneccisary thing such as a cell phone, ect.)
When you feel so tired but you can't sleep
(Because you see the bad things when you close your eyes)
    Stuck in reverse.
    (Stuck in the past)

And the tears come streaming down your face
    (Crying all the time)
When you lose something you can't replace
    (My virganity)
When you love someone but it goes to waste
    (The guy who raped me)
    Could it be worse?
    (My thoughts all the time)

    Lights will guide you home
    And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

And high up above earth or down below
When you're too in love to let it go
But if you never try you'll never know
    Just what you're worth

    Lights will guide you home
    And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

    Tears stream, down your face
When you lose something you cannot replace
Tears stream down your face and I...

    Tears stream, down your face
I promise you I will learn from my mistakes
Tears stream down your face and I...

    Lights will guide you home
    And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you.
