Ed Sheeran: Don't Meaning
Song Released: 2014
Don't Lyrics
Ah lahmlahlah
[Verse 1:]
I met this girl late last year
She said don't you worry if I disappear
I told her I'm not really looking for another mistake
I called an old friend thinking that the trouble would wait
But then I...

#1 top rated interpretation:The song is about Ed meeting this girl (Ellie Goulding) and them basically becoming friends with benefits (or they date low-key? I don't know; Ed clearly says that it was "never just fun" which alludes to them not actually being in a relationship, but messing around and kinda-sorta having feelings for each other.) Anyway, Ellie cheats on Ed (most likely with Niall Horan from One Direction; Ed and Niall used to be friends which could be what "I never saw him as a threat" refers to. However, I assume that he had no clue about Ellie and Ed's relationship.) but tells him out of guilt. Ed wrote "Don't" immediately after she confessed and said that every detail in the song is 100% true, if anything he toned it down a bit. The song is pretty self explanatory, though.

Ed Sheeran is right. He's always right. Don't. Fudge. With. This. Opinion. THEY WERE STAYING IN THE SAME FUDGING HOTEL FLOOR! PLUS SHE WAS LOOKING FOR A LOVER TO BURN.

Ed was touring and at the time, not looking to get in a serious relationship. However this changes when the girl, rumored to be Ellie Goulding, comes to his room for what Ed thinks to be a one night stand at most. The two are on tour and see each other here and there but their relationship gradually grows on Ed and he loves and trusts Ellie. The latter, either never considered her and Ed to be a thing or likes sleeping around. Popular opinion concludes that Ellie cheated on Ed with One Direction star Niall Horan. Sheeran and Horan had collaborated on music and were friends, this betrayal hurts Ed but doesn't stop him from telling her the truth, "don't f*** with my love", he is confused and holding her accountable all while rapping to an insane beat.

This song might be about Ellie but not Niall for the following reasons:
1. Ellie said Niall and her had nothing special just a few dates
2. Niall's a virgin so :\ -
ed was in a begining of a relationship with ellie, although it wasnt official or exclusice. Anyway, ellie had sex with niall, therefore cheated on ed. you can tell it is ellie as their are many clues, for example "lover to BURN" why the chorus is "dont f**k with my love" in other words dont play games with me. he explains in detail what happened, i.e watching films on the couch, drinking an eating takeaway. Things a couple would do. In the second verse he admits he didnt wanna talk about were they stand "Maybe well go together and just figure it out". in the third verse ellie knows she has made a mistake having sex with niall, but ed feels she isnt worth it and cant forgive her.the beat in the song could be the beat of his heart at the time out of anger. sorry if this was bad my first time.

This song is about a calm, chill, not-so-serious relationship between Ed Sheeran and Ellie Goulding. After she cheats on him, he explains that although it wasn't serious,it wasn't okay for her to cheat on him. After all, he liked her, at least enough to stay with her.
-
He cared about a girl and maybe could start a relationship with her one day but she went off and had sex with another guy which completely ruined any chances of the girl being with him.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

The song is about Ellie Goulding and Niall Horan. He started dating Ellie and she moved in then she ran off with Niall and cheated on Ed. "I didnt see him as a threat til you ran off with him to have sex"
-
I think this song is about Ed trusting and loving a girl, but then realizing that it was a huge mistake, and that she was already involved with someone else. He was wary that this would happen, and not all that surprised that it did, hence the line"I told her I wasn't really looking for another mistake."
