Fall Out Boy: Sugar, We're Goin Down Meaning
Song Released: 2005
Sugar, We're Goin Down Lyrics
I've been dying to tell you anything you want to hear
Cause that's just who I am this week
Lie in the grass, next to the mausoleum
I'm just a notch in your bedpost
But you're just a line in a song

This song is about masturbating to the girl that you really really like late at night in your bedroom. They said so at the JingleBall.
-
This song makes people laugh with the "AM I MOOOOORE THAN YOU BARGAINED FOR"
-
OK guys, how could anyone possibly know the REAL TRUE meaning of this incredible song? Only Pete would know, and wouldnt you just like it better...not knowing.....mysteriously incredible, and everyone knows pete obviously wrote this song for a reason and that there is defidently a true meaning to this song, but like I said how could you ever know?. wow you guys really did butcher this songs meaning didn't you?. and by the way it is defidently a loaded god complex. I personally think that this about a guy and a girl, that it isn't about homosxuals, but even if it is who cares?!! But who cares what people think you can think what you want to think about this song but whatever you say, FOB will still be truly an incredibly talented band full of insane singers, writers and musicans.

The line, "I'm just a notch in your bedpost, but you're just a line in a song," talks about sex, she, you know, and she puts a knotch in her bedpost every time. He's just one of them. He's saying that's more important than being a line in a song.
The only problem with Fall Out Boy songs is that the good ones talk bout sex. This ain't no love song either. I'd say more about he's takin bout a break up with some girl. That's the true meaning. -
Peter Wentz said himself that this song is "about sex. The best sex I ever had." with himself of course....so there ya go...sex sex sex

This song is about a dude who he and a girl are attracted to each other, but not exclusively. She is seeing other boys and the dude is jealous. The "A loaded god complex" Line refers to the fact that he will get her to himself, and he won't even consider that he may not.

Obviously you guys arent super awesome nuclear FOB fans like me. The cock it and pull it part means that he wants the girl to jack him off. That's it...nib high football rules.

Alright, even though it's very obvious that this song is interpreted differently by the person listening to it I'll still put in my 2 cents since it's 3:15 in the morning and I'm a complete loser.
I don't think anyone had it right, I think that it's about a guy who's in love with a girl but he is schitzophrenic and has multiple personalities, hence "loaded god complex". And one personality is jealous of another.
"Am I more than you bargained for yet?" and "that's just who I am this week" prove this. Also, he's just one of many notches in the bedpost. "Number one with a bullet" is saying that he's her number one, but one of his personalities is jealous; that's also why towards the end of the song the background says "take aim at myself". One of his personalities is jealous of another so the one is gonna kill the other.
Haven't you wondered why it says "isn't it messed up how I'm just dying to be him"...well it's because he is him, so yes, it's very messed up.
"We're going down swinging" is talking about his personalities fighting.
There are many ways that this song could mean this, but I was reading the other interpretations and I guess those could be possible in some sense. So they probably wrote this songs just so losers like me and you could stay up til 3:30 in the morning trying to figure the damn thing out. But who knows, maybe my interpretation was right and they made it so it would have many meanings to represent the guys many personalities.....but I guess we'll never know.
Now 'scuse me as I return to my pathetic life. -
This song has been interpreted right by most of these people here, especially the guy who said about a "complex" being a sexual situation...
At a recent concert Pete said "now, let's be honest, there's that one person that gets us, the one we think of when we're alone late at night, the one we might start to touch ourselves at the thought of...now everyone on 3 yell out the name of that person...1...2...3...SUGAR, WE'RE GOING DOWN!"
That pretty much sums it up, that the song is about masturbation and jealousy and wanting this girl sexually, but knowing that they, in a relationship, we're going down.
flaminglizard@optonline.net...let me know what you think...thanks -
I believe, as with every single song out there, that the interpretation is in the eye of the beholder. I admit, I had no clue what it ment. That is what brought me to this site. I was looking for answers. And I'll tell you what. I still have no clue what it means. I see it in every single way. And strangely, even in Miss Piggy's interpretation. I can understand that (in some ways) even though I still think she was full of it and probably high.
I still don't really know what to say, even though I do believe that it is a relationship between a girl and a guy. As for the sleeping on the wrong team. He belives that they have been sleeping on the wrong teams (not with eachother). If he and the girl would be together that would be the right team. The God complex depends on what your take is on religion. Be may be fearful of God and believes that the whole thing that is going on is wrong. I don't know how religious FOB is, I'm guessing not at all. But that is how I took the meaning. -
I think this guy hit the mark with his interpretation.

...Not. It's good for a laugh, though. Pete himself laughed at it. -
Wow. Proof it's a great song is that it can be interpreted on so many levels. None of the lyrics flat out say what they mean...and it switches around a lot.
And I shall now take a leaf out of Fueled By Adam's book...
Here's what Adam said on their MySpace:
I know the lyrics in the CD say it's "loaded god complex" but I still think it's "loaded gun complex." Am I right or is the band that wrote lyrics right?
Despite what your friends have told you, it's "loaded god complex" - check out the song Everyday's Forecast by Gym Class Heroes. -
I have heard some great and lousy interpretations.
I really agree with those who interpreted this song as a guy and girl relationship or as the band and the pop chart thing. Because either way when you listen to the song, the lyrics do actually relate to either one of those things.
And I'm still laughing for those who said that it was all about a gay or queer relationship. puh-leez!! And for those who said it was "a loaded gun complex" you have oviously never heard the song. Also those annoying people who say that Fall Out Boy's songs never make any sense, you oviously need to develop more insight (and a brain too.)
However, what really made my day was, miss piggy's interpretation, and I'll just say,"Girl are you high or something, 'cause that is the most retarted thing I've ever heard! Ha!"
But people if you seriously want an actual interpretation I would recommend communicating to Pete Wentz, because, in case you haven't noticed, he writes ALL the lyrics for Fall Out Boy.
Thank you for listening and have a nice day.
P.S- I love Fall Out Boy!!!!!!
