Fall Out Boy: Sugar, We're Goin Down Meaning
Song Released: 2005
Sugar, We're Goin Down Lyrics
I've been dying to tell you anything you want to hear
Cause that's just who I am this week
Lie in the grass, next to the mausoleum
I'm just a notch in your bedpost
But you're just a line in a song

Okay the whole song is aboout a boy who had this thing with a girl and the girl moves on and forgets about him. He realizes that he has feelings for her. When the song says " I'm watching you two from the closets. Wishing to be the friction in your jeans." It is saying that it is killing him to see the girl with another dude. His feelings are so strong he would do anything for her. THe part "Wishing to be the friction in her jeans" is not saying he is a perv. just that he is in the background looking in.

Ha ha! some of you guys are idiots! This little comment is to the genius on the first page that suggests that the description is of an Oedipus complex- YOU'RE AN IDIOT!! An Oedipus complex is when a person feels hatred towards the parent of the same sex and loves sexually the parent of the opposite sex. So, check your facts instead of just naming off the only complex you know.

honestly? ok, i dont think its about homosexuals, but songs can have many different meanings. so think about that. it could be about FOB trying to get big, it could be about a guy wanting another girl, or whatever.
-
if you want the actual meaning here it is.
they are talking about masturbation.
100% serious. they said it in one of their live
acoustic concerts.
look it up -
Okay, I am getting annoyed. This song is not about love what so ever. Get over it. So the first three lines is about them being the big band for their fans: "Am I more than you bargained for yet, I've been dying to tell you anything you want to hear, because that is just who I am this week."
The next line (Lie in the grass, next to the mausoleum) would be about how the band will die if they aren't "more than you bargained for yet." Then, the line that leads everyone the wrong direction: I'm just a notch in your bedpost. Well, this, in my opinion is talking about band posters since this song ISN'T about love. So the band is just another poster on your bedpost and all the fans (you) are a line in their song.
{funky random chorus here}
be your #1 with a bullet. Think about it, there are two possiblities.
1-#1 song with a bullet(increasing in sales while be #1, I believe)
2-almost all famous bands get the most fame after they break up or all members die.
loaded god complex= a loaded godly person or person who believes they are godlike, and either they are:
1-bullet as in increasing views like crazy
2-dying off
The next verse is like a metaphor for the band and its fans. Its like a sex-scene describing how the audience loves another band.
Closet=backstage
and yes, dying to be HIM because the band is all-males.
Get it? -
I real it means that the guys dating a girl but he kinda feels she only wants sex so the relationship is as it says going down down in a earlier round and their not going down without a fight! but after he still wants her.
-
I don't get the music video with the deer stuff.

How people were saying that it was like a boy and girl physically involved and not like the other way and then the boy falls for her.....i think that is completely correct. Its like the plot to a farewell to arms, by Hemmingway, one of Pete's favorite books.
-
I think its a guy who was used by a girl (I'm just a notch in your bedpost, but your just a line in a song) but fell in love with her thinking that she loved him back, but now he sees her using other guys and wants her back (isn't messed up how I'm just dying to be him)
he'd also go at great lengths to get with her (I've been dying to tell you anything you want to hear) -
This song is about a guy who has fallen for a girl, who has charmed him into sleeping with him several times, but just does it for fun and he just feels like he's dying every time he sees her with a nother and in the end he can't stand it anymore and kills himself. Tragic, but simple.

First off, everyone's wrong. Most songs are written for self interpretation. If you want the song to be about a guy and a girl and jealousy, or about a guy being in the closet, or as fall out boys at our band going from a normal band to mainstream media. Personally, when someone posted that FOB said in an interview about the beginning of the song being about being who the mainstream wants them to be as an image, then I see the rest of the song as a satire. Like Loaded God Complex, cock and pull it. In a industry where you can be Loaded God, and you can cock it back and shoot, I'm going down , down, sugar were going down swinging. but hey I'm probably wrong too.

I think that this song is talking about a guy who loves a girl more then anything else and he is explaining how he will do anything to make it work
He may mention the words " loaded gun complex" but I don't think that he's talking about an actual gun I think that he's talking about the strenght of his love for her and making the relationship work -
Well..... This is actually about Pete Wentz stalking somebody, and the lyrics "sleeping on your front porch...drop dead" are about her finding out about him stalking her. unfortunatly she 1. Isn't interested, and 2. Is being stalked so its a bit wrong.

Fall Out Boy's pete wentz recently disclosed in an interview that this song is actually about his first gay experience (ie going down on a guy). Sorry to everyone out there who thinks that he's in love with a girl hence "watching you two from the closet". I was shocked when I first found this out as I think pete is gorgeous, but it's probably just a phase he's going through.
The lines:
"a loaded god complex (something godlike eg: the other guy's penis) cock it and pull it"
"sleeping for the wrong team"
"Isn't it messed up how I'm just dying to be him?"
Next time you listen to that song you'll hear everything differently lol. Still a fantastic song though. I love it! and I love fall out boy. I've nothing against gay people =] -
It means how the guy (dude with antlers in vid) is in love with her, and he would do anything for her hence the phrase "ive been dying to tell you anything you want to hear" and the singer (patrick) but just in the story line though, is jealous "I'm just a notch in your'e bedpost, but your just a line in a song", he is trying to make out that he dosnt have feelings for her. "ill be your number one with a bullet" meaining he's trying to get her to like him. That's what I think. Pete says that every song he writes has something to do with his life, so ask him for the real meaning, but that's what I think
