Song Released: 1976
Go Your Own Way Lyrics
Isnt the right thing to do
How can I ever change things
That I feel
If I could
Maybe Id give you my world
How can i
When you wont take it from me
You can go your own way
Go your own way
You an call it
Another lonely...

1TOP RATED
#1 top rated interpretation:I think this song explains itself...this song is basically about the break-up of Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks. "Lovin you isn't the right thing to do" Lindsey is still in love with Stevie at this point but he believes it isn't the right thing to do. "Packin up, shakin up's all you wanna do" Here Lindsey is preety much calling Stevie a slut. You can feel the pain in this song, the frustration and yet also the love Lindsey still had for Stevie at the time. Probably the most emotional break-up song of all time.

Nicks has said that she consciously chose not to have children of her own, due to her demanding career and desire to follow her art wherever it should take her: "My mission maybe wasn't to be a mom and a wife; maybe my particular mission was to write songs to make moms and wives feel better."[155] She finds maternal fulfillment through her niece, godchildren, and extended family: "I have lots of kids. It's much more fun to be the crazy auntie than it is to be the mom, anyway."[156]

Sometimes people have an amazing connection with each other, but it is just not right to be in relationship. An example is sometimes two creative types can feed off each others emotional sides or encourage each other to do cocaine and other drugs. then you know "loving you isn't the right thing to do". And yet you can't help wondering why it is over, as there was such a connection. They wonder why they could not make it right. And yes they often know that the other will be lonely for their soul mate connection should they leave.

Hi Macfan, I'm the guy who left the "anonymous" interpretation. I understand what your saying but Stevie herself has said in interviews (including the Rumours DVD I think) that Lindsey was referring to her 'shacking up' with men after the break-up, eg: Don Henley, Mick Fleetwood etc. I believed she was referring to her being with other guys, and that's what Lindsey meant there. But you maybe right. Great song never the less

I think that's pretty close, anonymous, except the "slut" part. "Shacking up" is/was a term used for an unmarried couple living together. I think Lindsey wanted a traditional life with Stevie; he wanted to marry her, have children, etc. But Stevie was and has always been scared of that serious a commitment. Therefore, Lindsey points out, rightfully so in my opinion, that all Stevie wants to do is "shack up" with him.
