Fleetwood Mac: Songbird Meaning
Songbird Lyrics
For you, the sun will be shining,
And I feel that when I'm with you,
It's alright, I know it's right
To you, I'll give the world
to you, I'll never be cold
'Cause I feel that when I'm with you,
It's...

When my wife and I were married, we both selected a song for our very small service--simply the pastor and her husband attended. I selected Songbird, as we had a somewhat non-traditional relationship, and I felt the song represented unconditional love. After many years, she died a slow death from cancer, we sharing every moment until her death. "I love you, I love you, I love you, like never before." So very true. At the funeral, I could not play that song. Instead, used Landslide.

-
A haunting tune which takes you where ever you want it too
-
For you, there'll be no more crying,
For you, the sun will be shining,
And I feel that when I'm with you,
It's alright, I know it's right
To you, I'll give the world
to you, I'll never be cold
'Cause I feel that when I'm with you,
It's... Birds represent spirits and are connected the religious spirituality the five is the holy sport is what Christians believe -
We have dedicated this to our still born baby twin girl and will play it at her funeral. We have one surviving twin and one twin who has passed. 'I feel that when I'm with you, it's alright' while I am still pregnant with them both and they're with me it's alright. 'To you I'd give the world' - a mothers love. Our surviving girls middle name means songbird and feel it's like she's 'singing like she knows the score' about her twin sister. The saddest yet most beautiful song I have ever heard.
-
This song to me is about someone who has died.Their loved one is mourning for them.Birds are very spiritual and a connection to mortality.

Christine McVie prefers to pen her songs from another person's point of view rather than writing about herself. She told Uncut: "If you take 'Songbird' as an example, that was written in about half an hour. If I could write a few more like that, I would be a happy girl. It doesn't really relate to anybody in particular; it relates to everybody. A lot of people play it at their weddings or at bar mitzvahs or at their dog's funeral. It's universal. It's about you and nobody else. It's about you and everybody else. That's how I like to write songs."

What it meant to the writer. -
It's a song about a relationship which has evolved. Whether the couple is coming together stronger, or have made the decision to go their separate ways, their past has led them to a major cornerstone in their lives. Their past has stripped their relationship to bare bones, and she's come to the conclusion of which the only thing that matters is the other persons happiness. This is the absolute definition of loving someone, selflessness is loves true form.

I drove my true love away years ago and have never forgotten about her. I have always hoped she would do better than me, but I also wanted to be the guy who loved her.
This song is how I have felt for years.
She didn't have to cry anymore because of me.
I want her to be happy but
I want to be her lover.
I have always loved this song. -
I love this song, and I dedicated to my 17 yearold dachshund Charlee who just passed away last December 2012. When ever I see pictures of him or hear this song, I cry a river. It is a very emotional song.
-
My interpretation is that you love that person so much. That you would never do anything to harm them and will always be there to help them out. You care so deeply about them and never want to see them sad.
-
mcvie's tribute to the rest of the songbirds in the band when she is the true songbird. A true swan song for her and her ex.
-
For me, this song is Love. It is saying, to that special someone 'I am totally here to support you and I won't desert you in your hour of need.' It is also saying that you give yourself, body, mind, heart, soul...hell, you would even wish to die in their place if the need arose... to this special someone. All positive happiness and sweetness fills you up when you think about them and definitely when you are in their presence. My special someone is my darling husband xx :)
