Florence + the Machine: Between Two Lungs Meaning
Between Two Lungs Lyrics
The breath that captured me
The sigh that blew me forward
Because it was trapped
Trapped between two lungs
It was trapped between two lungs
It was trapped between two lungs
And my running feet could...
-
the song may be about poor people stealing. here's why i think so:
"Between two lungs it was released
The breath that carried me
The sigh that blew me forward"
a boy and a girl, or more likely a girl and a girl, are poor people on the streets and girl 1 talks to girl 2 about stealing, and they keep it a secret. girl 1 cheered on girl 2, telling her to steal.
"'cause it was trapped
Trapped between two lungs
It was trapped between two lungs
It was trapped between two lungs"
ONLY the girls were stealing in the city/town, and they worked very well with each other, and they wouldn't team up with other people to steal.
"And my running feet could fly
Each breath screaming: "We are all too young to die!"
as they both steal, they run for their lives, panting and thinking they cannot die now, because their life was enjoyable with each other despite being broke.
"Between two lungs it was released
The breath that passed from you to me
It flew between us as we slept
That slipped from your mouth into mine
It crept between two lungs
It was released
The breath that passed from you to me
It flew between us as we slept
That slipped from your mouth into mine
It crept"
with each day they got closer and closer
"'cause it was trapped
Trapped between two lungs
It was trapped between two lungs"
they still stole, and nobody knew
"Gone are the days of begging
The days of theft
No more gasping for a breath
The air has filled me head to toe
And I can see the ground far below
I have this breath and I hold it tight
And I keep it in my chest with all my might
I pray to god this breath will last
As it pushes past my lips
As I...
Gasp,
Gasp."
they finally stop stealing and make their own money, and the two get into a relationship.
