Flyleaf: Again Meaning
Song Released: 2009
Again Lyrics
With every injustice and deadly fate
Praying it all will be new
And living like it all depends on you
Here you are down on your knees again
Trying to find air to breathe again
And only surrender will...

#1 top rated interpretation:This song is written from God's perspective:
"I love the way that your heart breaks
With every injustice and deadly fate
Praying it all be new
And living like it all depends on you"
So many people, when something bad happens or someone does wrong, they cry out to God. So many people try to take it upon themselves to make a change, yet only through His strength can things change.
"Here you are down on your knees again
Trying to find air to breathe again
And only surrender will help you now
I love you, please see and believe again"
And so people go to pray, sobbing and crying to God for answers, crying so hard they can barely breathe. Yet surrender to His will can alleviated the hurt and pain. He loves us and wants us to see this and believe.
"I love that you're never satisfied
With face value, wisdom, and happy lies
You take what they say and go back and cry
You're so close to me that you nearly died"
He knows that the world will try to mislead the faithful through "face value, wisdom, and happy lies". His people take this and go back and cry out to Him.
"They don't have to understand you
Be still
Wait and know I understand you
Be still, be still"
The world might not understand us, be He who created us does. Psalms 46:10 says, "Be still and know that I am God" -

#2 top rated interpretation:"Here you are down on your knees again
Trying to find air to breathe again

The song is from God's perspective telling us how much he loves us and how surrender to him will save us. This he begs us to see and have faith again. In our life we constantly make mistakes no matter who we are.
"Love that you're never satisfied
With face value wisdom and happy lies
You take what they say and go back and cry
You're so close to me that you nearly died"
We are human and we tend to be unsatisfied with our life even for how great it is. But even for our selfishness and lies God still loves us. And when we break for what others do to us, in his presence we are saved and for him we are saved. So God tells us that others don‘t have to understand us because he will.
"Here you are down on your knees
Trying to find air to breathe
Right where I want you to be again
I love you please see and believe again"
The song tells the stories of our redemptions when we have fallen and we manage to come back to God. Even for our sins and our mistakes God still loves us and when we come before him on our knees that's right where he wants us to be no matter what we've done, because all he wants is to have us before him and believe. -
I believe this song is about a person who is struggling in life. "I" is referring to God.
Happy lies is the person lying about how "great" their life is when inside they're struggling. "You're so close to me that you nearly died" means the person wanted to commit suicide to join God. The "Here you are down on your knees again" part is probably the person asking God for forgiveness(as trying to commit suicide is a sin). -
The song debuted in early 2007 along with the song "Have We Lost" while Flyleaf was on tour, playing songs from their self-titled debut album Flyleaf. In mid-2009, the lyrics to the song changed, and lead singer Lacey Mosley explain why in a letter written to fans.
"The fans seem to know what’s happening with us before we do and I’m not surprised to find out many have known the lyrics to Again for a year now. :-) The first verse and chorus did change in the studio! It is a good thing, because the words say better what my heart meant. It is written for people like me, who feel a restlessness to make the world better somehow, but are much too small to carry the weight of the world on their shoulders. Its to say, you have the right heart, but you weren’t meant to carry it all. You are so strong, you are able to handle so much! But you can’t handle everything all at once. Let go! God’s big and He can handle it all better than you! Its okay to let go and not understand everything. I should start a control freak support group… Anyone interested? Maybe this song will help us. I sing it to myself 'Only surrender will help you now..' And then I let go."

A lot of these have to do with god, and that makes sense and is probably the same as her interpretation of the song, but here is one for that agnostics or atheists lookin for a meaning that may fit a bit better in their minds.
"I love the way that your heart breaks
With every injustice and deadly fate
Praying it all will be new
And living like it all depends on you"
So generally, in my perspective this song basically says (you as in the "I" part) You wish for a better life for this person, you see the way they take things to heart, and try so hard to make things right . But you also see them falling apart. You love them, wanting them to see you, and the world in a better way, to see a reason to live or go on, and believe that they can, while also still seeing the world for what it is. And you see the worst parts of them, and still love them for who they are. -
It's about her loving a person and wanting them to go to heaven, but they have either drifted away or don't believe in God. She's trying to restore their faith.

I think it's about if you were in God's shoes, having to answer everyone's prayers and everyone relying on you, even with things they are perfectly capable of themselves.
-
i think this song is about you trying to mak god forgive you. like everytime you sin you should be on your knees trying to ask for forgiveness
