Foo Fighters: All My Life Meaning
Song Released: 2002
All My Life Lyrics
Somethin’ never comes, never leads to nothin’
Nothin’ satisfies, but I’m gettin’ close
Closer to the prize at the end of the rope
All night long I dream of the day
When it comes around, and...

I believe all are potentially true. However I think its general for a demon looking to poses a human. Never leads to nothin means that once the demon finishes using a human it didn't benefit him in any way except leading the human to destruction and death. Then he goes and does the same thing to the next sinful human. Hidden up my sleave to me is talking about the tricks they do to humans to allure them to sin.. because they can only poses sinful hearts. So if a person slits their wrist a masocism demon applies. A sexual feind attracts a nympho demon. Listen to it from this perspective.. "will I find a beleiver? Another one to deceive." "if I get any closer and If you let me inside" I love it but I hate the taste is the human saying its a love hate feeling with his demon

oyu guys are so sick! this song is about deception, is about going from one relationship to another void to void, to ultimate find that somene that fill the void... that does not exists.

Even though I agree in many points with the interpretation of the first place (anonymous post, at Jun 20th 2008, 23:33) when he/she says it's about a nymphomaniac man, I don't really think he only manipulates women by making them believe there's something more then just sex between them. Verses like the following:
"Leaves me with the feelin’ that I fear the most
Feel it come to life when I see your ghost
Calm down, don’t you resist
Your such a delicate wrist
And if I give it a twist
Somethin’ to hold when I lose my grip"
Seem pretty clear to me that he is raping the women he deceives. He very likely hurts them physically or kill them, eventually. It would, at least, explain why it "Leaves me with the feelin’ that I fear the most", the weight over his shoulders for knowing he's doing something wrong, but he just feels so alive when doing it over and over, he just can't resist! He fears, and thrills with the emotion of having done such thing to someone else, like an addiction to that moment... the girl, the (forced) sex, her struggle, the violence and death.
"Feel it come alive when I see your ghost" would then complete this meaning, like if he was trying to explain to his victim that she would be able to experience this feeling "that I fear the most", right at the moment her life would be fading away; the moment his satisfaction would reach its apex.
So, this man is not only a nymphomaniac, he is a psychopath, unable of experiencing sorrow or pain for his victims, and letting his impulses going out of control, at the need and search of something to make him feel alive, excited.
"Hey, don’t let it go to waste
I love it but , I hate that taste
Weight keeping me down" -
I think, like some here, that the song is about his love and hate to his sex addiction and the games that he play with women to get it from them. But Xerodout's interpretation is concise also. I never thought of it that way(prob becuz I do believe in God). Songs like this one is timeless because people can relate to them in their own special way. That's the beauty of music.

I really can't believe that no one has seen what I have in this song. I really believe that this song is about people blindly following religion and how he thinks its bullshit. Every lyric that I can fully decipher fits.
"All my life I've been searching for something, something never comes never leads to nothing, nothing satisfies but I'm getting close, closer to the prize at the end of my rope." Someone follows religion there Whole life without any proof but they over look that thinking that they will make it to heaven when they die.
"And if I give it a twist, something to hold when I lose my grip"
Meaning when people are so stressed out or in trouble they convince themselve that "God" will take care of them.
"I love it but I hate the taste"
They love there following but they arent aloud to do anything fun.
"will I find a believer, another one who believes, another one to deceve, over and over down on my knees"
Thats pretty obvious to relate to religion. (sorry By the way I'm aagnostic and think religion is a cop out for people that don't want to question and find Actual answers)
All night long I dream of the day
When it comes around, and it's takin away
Leaves me with the feelin that I feel the most
Feel it come to life when I see your ghost
And I'm Done, done; on to the next one
Done, done, and I'm on to the next one
Devote religious person wanting to be with god, and when they finally die and see the HOLY GHOST they start there next life. Bla bla bla
I can clearly see the sex thing, but looking at the lyrics in a not such a way, it seems a lot more like about and against religion. -
"I love it but I hate the taste"
he loves eating pussy, but hates the taste -
I think a lot of it has to go with him going down with a girl, especially the lines "I love it but I hate the taste" and this entire section
"Will I find the believer
Another one who believes
Another one to deceive
Over and over, down on my knees
If I get any closer, I
And if you open up wide
And if you let me inside
On and on, I've got nuthin' to hide" -
Like the other interpretations here, I think this is about addictions, but unlike what the others are saying, I think it's not sex, but alchohol that he's addicted to. "I love it but I hate the taste" explains itself. And then, "done, done, on to the next one..." could mean that he can't stop when he starts drinking, or he just decides to drink a lot.
Very similar to the other posts, but mainly just a different addiction. -
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

I think this song is about Dave trying to best himself each time he writes a song, each time he does an album with the foo fighters or whatever other band he works with "done and I'm on to the next one" seems pretty clear to me that it's about him wanting to better himself and open himself up more to the listener with each new song and album.....what you reckon??
-
I think it's about shooting up a substance; speed, cocaine, or maybe heroin? Being on drugs you just search for that great high, closer to the prize at the end of the rope. Has been known to shoot when you use something to hold off your blood vessels like a belt rope whatever. when you get the drug it comes and goes. when it comes around its takinaway. doesn't have to be took but taking as in use. leaves with the feeling he feels the most feel it come to life when I see your ghost. I've known shooting when you register your blood as being either your soul/ghost and then shooting it. Which goes along with the calm down don't reisster something to hold when I lose my grip part.
and its a dead give away "another reason to bleed" "one by one hidden up my sleeve" track marks. -
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

Alright, here it goes.. Carl thinks it's about going down on a girl "I love it but, I hate that taste "
I reckon it is sex, like says something like fisting a girl at one point in the song '"One by one, Hidden up my sleeve"
our interpretation on all my life foo fighters// awesome song!! :P -
I think that it is about him once having someone that he loved very passionately, and then she was taken away from him...maybe even died. This left him with an empty void that throughout the song he is trying to fill by sleeping with lots of women. If you have that idea in the back of your mind while you're reading it, it's pretty straight forward.

This song is about alcohol and some drug and suicide reference. one by one could be shots or drinks or it could be drugs. on to the next one could be the next shot or drink or to the next drug like a gateway drug then I think the wrist part is pretty obvious that when he says he wants to give it a twist which would be to destroy himself. The part where he is like I love it but I hate the taste referring to alcohol cause no one likes the taste of a shot... The part where its hidden up his sleeve could easily be heroin going up his sleeve... I think this song is about alcohol and drugs and possibly suicide but feel free to disagree
