Foo Fighters: Everlong Meaning
Song Released: 1997
Everlong Lyrics
I've waited here for you
Everlong
Tonight
I throw myself into
And out of the red, out of her head she sang
Come down
And waste away with me
Down with me
Slow how
You wanted it to be
I'm over my head, out of her head she...

It's rumoured about Dave's relationship with Louise Post of Veruca Salt as is Doll. She has also written a song about him and how he two timed her.

Ok people, IT'S NOT ABOUT SEX, DRUGS OR ORAL SEX how can it be? if you've seen the video it's a love song.

In all honesty, the song doesnt sound remotely like its about Kurt.. And if you think about it, Grohl's been with Foo Fighters for 10+ years, and Nirvana for around 3. Not every song has to be interpreted towards Cobain.... If you listen to the lyrics, they sound like theyre about a sexual relationship Grohl may or may not have had. "Tonight, I'll throw myself in two... out of the red, out of her head she sang.." ...Possibly rough sex.. "Slow, how you wanted it to be" ...Sex.. "When i sing along with you.. If anything could ever FEEL this real forever.. If anything could ever be this good again.. The only thing I'll ever ask of you, you have to promise not to stop when i say when.. She sang.." Well duh, just think about it.. And a very good one, " Breathe out.. So i can breathe you in.... Hold you in..! I think that the song is about rough sex, and that feeling of invincibility youth carries with it, including the feeling of never wanting that to end.. Submit what you think its about, and comment on what you think about this theory

I always thought it was about a love for his guitar or something,
"and she sang" (Guitar part)
"when I sing along with you"
i dunno that just seemed to make sense to me -

There is so much to this song for one human besides Dave Grohl to understand it.
He was obviously in love or somewhere close to something at the point in time that he sang this song, and it became a part of him.
It could have been about a girl or drugs, drugs are strong but not strong enough for the full meaning of this song.
Somewhere deep in there ir could possibly be about Kurt and the drug addiction Dave feels he could of saved him from.
This song is about Dave and the peak of his happiness. He's finding the meaning of life and he does not want it to go away. Everything, from Kurt, to the girl he found, to drugs are put together in this song, but ultimately there is one meaning: finding the thing you've forever wanted and trying to hold on to it as best as you can. -
Before Dave played everlong at the rock honors he said I want to dedicate this song to an old friend who's no longer with me... Kurt Cobain

When I first heard this song I thought it was a break up song because the music is sort of intense and the tone is low; however, when I stopped to listen to the lyrics I thought it's a love song about a good relationship, either sexually and/or emotionally. Great tune!

A comment above said it was written for his wife, Jennifer Youngblood, and to check on Wiki. According to wiki it was written about Louise Post, like another comment said. And he's spoken about the song being about Louise in magazines.
And oh my GOD will people stop saying that ALL his songs are about Kurt? Yeah you probably could find evidence if you were looking specifically for it, but then again you could probably also find evidence that all of his songs are about depression or even gay porn! I reckon he has other people around him to think about now. As far as I know only My Hero and Friend of a Friend are about Kurt, based on interviews with Dave.
Get over it. -

The song is about a girl he'd fallen in love with when they were dating (Louise Post from the band Veruca Salt). He said so in Kerrang! magazine

Reading a lot of Dave interviews and having been a foo follower since they're been around practically, he wrote this song about his wife of the time.... They divorced, and majority of the album is dedicated to her. It's on Wikipedia too for those whom don't believe. just look up Jennifer Youngblood.

This song is the Kurt Cobain, try to take every "you", and then think that his saying you to Kurt. It's about after Kurt's dead (hello, I've waited here for you, everlong) Dave is looking back on how it was to be with Kurt, and how he never wanted the feelings to go away (And I wander, when I sing along with you, if everything would ever feel this real forever, if anything would ever be this good) I think the lyrics says it pretty clear. It could seem like this song was about a girl Dave broke up with, and now his missing her.
"Come down, and waste away with me, down with me", says pretty clear how his missing Kurt, and how he wanting him to come back. Try to read the line, and think of every "you" as Kurt. I have lost a brother myself, and it is like I could have written it to him, just by the feeling of the loss he has, and how I'm wanting him to be here with me.
