Long Road to Ruin Lyrics

hey now don't make a sound
Say have you heard the news today?
One flag was taken down
To raise another in it's place

A heavy cross you bear
A stubborn heart remains unchanged
No home, no life, no love
No stranger singing in your...

I think "Long Road to Ruin" is about living in the moment and trying to be someone you aren't.
When it says "One flag was taken down/to raise another in its place" it makes me think of the popular trends that come and go; how one trend is thrown out to make room for a new one. "No stranger singing in your name" means nobody is standing behind you or with you; you are an idol to no one.
"Long Road to Ruin" means you are driving down a long road that will lead to your own demise (think the car-crash scene at the end of the music video). "No dead end in sight" - this continues off of the "Long Road" metaphor: you don't see the dead end coming, and you only think about the present (living in the moment).
"Is that the price you pay/running through hell/heaven can wait" - This is talking about what the consequences you suffer when you live a bad life and just figure you can fix your life later; heaven can wait.
"No turning back, don't turn that page" - This means the person doesn't want to look back at their past or think ahead to their future.
--Live in the moment, but before you know it, the moment will be gone.

The 'Long Road' is a reference to life itself. When he says 'long road to ruin' he is saying that life is something that is a very 'long' thing to ruin completly. He is basically saying that life is hard to stuff up completly, because eventually you'll get to a point in the 'road' (life) and realise that you have moved on from something that has burdened you for ages or realise that the boundaries that you thought were holding you back don't even exsist. It is a very positing and I love it.
