Fun.: Carry On Meaning
Song Released: 2012
Carry On Lyrics
The cars were cutting like knives in a fist fight
And I found you with a bottle of wine
Your head in the curtains
And heart like the Fourth of July
You swore and said
"We are not
We are not...

It is about life and the cycle everyone goes through...Love. The lyrics that say he was cheated on is just the cycle. At the uplifting ending, is the moment to where he can "carry on" with life. Everywhere between is just life and we all have to life through it. He finds comfort in the people around him, but he still realizes he can't cheat or get around the cycle so he figuratively and literally carries on in the cycle of life...FUN isn't it?

I personally think it's a conversation Nate is having with Jack. I'm going to assume it's 9/11 Andrew is angry and upset. Nate is probably talking to him about fame and Javk says "We are not shining stars" Nate tries to cover and says " I didn't say we are"
He then realizes why Jack is so angry and knows that he hasn't gone through what Jack had gone through
Then the chorus Nate starts to sing to everyone his sister his mom his gf everyone
He and the guys then go to a bar and drown their sorrows they talk and laugh about death.
Nate realized he's been cheated on (figurative or literal) and he thinks he can cheat by using a viscous cycle
At the end Jack realizes he can Carry On and he songs about finding ur way home along with Nate
Just my opinion based on what happened to Jack on 9/11 and onward -
I think its about getting through all the bad things in life. His girlfriend is an alcoholic, and has possibly tried to kill herself. He is saying to keep going on even if things are bad. He says "we are not shining stars" because they are not perfect. At the end he says they are, because everyone should think themselves perfect. You're supposed to think ahead, not behind. Surprisingly, even though this song is about getting better, I really connected. It makes you happy, and sad!

I absolutely love this song. To me this song is about he was hurt and how he's not going to just stop living. He's going to keep going and that he will be great at whatever he ends up doing. At the end he does say "We are shining stars." Absolutely amazing.

This song is about an end to a relationship. He woke up one morning to find his girlfriend quiet and mourning. She said, "We are not shining stars", meaning that they aren't perfect for each other. And he agreed with her. He was upset about it at first, but he knows they can never go back and fix it. But he has uplifting things to say in the chorus about the situation: You can always carry on, no matter how crappy the situation is. He went and grieved about the broken relationship and life in general with some friends. "I can cheat it all/ To make up for the times I've been cheated on". This can have a literal meaning that his girlfriend had cheated on him, and that's why he knows that the relationship is over and can't be repaired. But it could mean that he has been in a "vicious circle" of circumstances that he can get out of by being optmistic about what life throws at him. Then later on, he decides he wants to fix things, no matter how painful it might be. "Cause we are/ We are shining stars/ We are invincible/ We are who we are/ On our darkest day/ When we're miles away/ So we'll come/ We'll find our way home".
