Fun.: Some Nights Meaning
Song Released: 2012
Some Nights Lyrics
Some nights, I call it a draw
Some nights, I wish that my lips could build a castle
Some nights, I wish they'd just fall off
But I still wake up, I still see your ghost
Oh Lord, I'm still not...

This song is about him leaving Arizona to pursue his musical career. It has it's ups and downs, but in the end it is all he ever wanted.

It's about a rock star and the price of stardom. "Lips build a castle"...his home and his wealth are due to his singing. "Wish they'd just fall off"...he's tired of singing. He left behind a girl and his friends and his family to pursue a career in music and he still sees them (ghost)and wants to be with them. He is woo'd by music people and all they hype and the music business is war and he just wants to 'break the rules already', and people are always wanting to 'jack my style'. He has a woman (groupie or whoever) spend the night with him just so he can feel normal and forget about everything else. "5 minutes in and I'm bored again" could represent a song or a recording session, because he's been at it for 10 years. And he's saying this life isn't for everybody. The worry that he'll be forgotten, either by his loved ones, or the fans that quickly replace their 'favorite' band. Die alone all dried up in the desert sun could be his career. His heart breaks for his sister because he wasn't there when she was going through a rough time with her husband, but looking into her son (my nephew's eyes), you wouldn't believe the most amazing things that can come from some terrible lies...meaning he loves his sister and her son, even though the nephew's father was a con in his eyes.
The civil war video really throws this off. -

Nate is talking about how hard it is to find something good on TV "some nights", even though you have a bazillion channels to choose from.
I know b/c I'm not Nate, but
I did sleep at a Holiday Inn last night. Why did I sleep at a Holiday Inn? Because there was nothing on TV to keep me awake. -
This song is about him going to Dairy Queen. Since he's on a strict diet he uses the term his sister and his nephew is a delicious Oreo blizzard. I know this cuz we did a threesome on his "sister"
-
You are all wrong. It's about Wreck-it Ralph. He's a bad guy but that does not mean he's bad guy.
-
You are all stupid he did not have sex with his sister the first one is right stop writing stupid shit

The meaning of this song actually goes very deep into nate's mind. He really put a lot of emotion into making this. Most people are unaware of how the entertainment industry actually works behind closed doors. People that are "in" know that in order to become famous, an artist generally has to sell their soul to the devil. There are MANY MANY artist who have done this, and many of which are probably some of your favorite. Once you notice, you can see in many many many songs by artist in every genre, they talk about this and sing about the same struggles they have to go through because of the effects selling their soul has had on them. At the start of the song he says "some nights i stay up cashing in my bad luck, some night i call it a draw". This is referring to actuality, because once someone has sold their soul, they give their essence to their negative emotions, good things will no long happen for them until they break free from their chains of oppression. Also often, artist that have sold their soul get insomnia and aren't able to sleep without medication because they have such horrible night terrors of the demons that are around them. Eminem talks much about this in his song dance with the devil and snoop dogg talks about it in his song murder was the case. He then says "some night i wish my lips could build a castle, some nights i wish they'd just fall off". A castle has always been used for defense against invading forces, suggesting that he seeks to build up a barrier strong enough to hold the negative emotions(the demons) at bay, while other nights he just wants to give up because the fight is just too much to take. When he says "i still wake up and see your ghost" it suggest that he is haunted by the ghost of someone he had to sacrifice to get where he is today. When he says "what do i stand for? most nights i don't know anymore.", it is because he has lost his way and has lost sight of the true purpose in his life by giving into the superficiality of the physical world, at the consequence of ignoring is spiritual destiny. He goes on to say "this is it boys, this is war, so what are we waiting for. why don't we brake the rules already." he is stating that their is a war going on inside his head and part of him (his true self) is trying to fight back but the demons are holding him at bay. He wants to start braking the rules that his superiors place for him but there is still hesitation and fear that is stopping him. He goes on to say "I try twice as hard and I'm half as liked, but here they come again to jack my style", stating that he now has to work for someone else's cause and doesn't have the free will to do things on his own anymore, this often results because once you get deep enough into the entertainment industry's grip, you become a slave, a puppet of theirs. The image you put off to the public is not who you really are but what they want you to be like. He says right after "And that's alright; I found a martyr in my bed tonight
She stops my bones from wondering just who I am". This is also another common place thing in the entertainment industry. They use MK trauma mind control on many innocent people, and turn many females into "sex kittens". They lose their true free will and their minds are clouded with many illusions and delusions created by unimaginable torture in order to cause the core personality to retreat into a fantasy world so they can reprogram the "blank slate vessel" with the personality that is desired. It is basically like artificial split personality disorder, except unlike when this naturally occurs due the horrible trauma in a person's life, in order to help the brain cope with it; when the core disassociates itself from reality, they know enough about the mind to program it with what they want, creating a slave/puppet. That's why she is refered to as a Martyr. They use these "sex kittens" to help keep their artist in place and to give them some peace of mind. Then he stats "Well, some nights, I wish that this all would end
Cause I could use some friends for a change". This is because the world that is created for them after they sell their soul is hell on earth. It seems all good and fun at first but then after awhile, they see past it and realize that all of that "fun" has no true meaning or value. They have lost value in them-self, and therefore cannot have any real value for another, making it impossible for them to have any real relationships with people or any actual friends. Then he goes on to say "So this is it? I sold my soul for this?
Washed my hands of God for this?
I miss my mom and dad for this?". These are some of the most important lyrics in the song. He said he sold his soul because he literally needed to do that to become famous. He gave up the essence and grace of God (the positive energy of existence, the light) and gave his soul to the devil (the negative energy of existence, superficiality). Because he embraced the devil, he can no longer have any real relationships has i stated earlier, because he has sold himself to the superficiality of the physical world, so he can no longer see beyond that, even in other people. All he can see is the surface but can't make any real connections to them anymore, not even his parents. He then states "When I see stars, when I see, when I see stars, that's all they are", indicating he has lost hope and his connection to the universe, to God. he then says "Well, that is it guys, that is all - five minutes in and I'm bored again
Ten years of this, I'm not sure if anybody understands
This one is not for the folks at home". He is saying that ok i did what you want but it wasn't by my free will and choice, it is because he was forced to. He also doesn't believe that people that listen to this song will understand the true meaning in it, it says it is not for the folks back home, indicating the song wasn't made for a loved one, it was made for himself, describing is internal life.
Just to clarify it, it is not actually the devil that his soul was sold to, it is a demon, at least from my current understanding of the situation. The devil is all negativity itself, while demons are higher dimensional creatures of negativity. The demon he sold his soul to depends on what he was seeking when he sold his soul and the motives behind selling his soul. -
Civil War. Am I the only one???? A lot of people left their parents to fight. He's references his parents several times. When he says this is war why don't we break the rules already. He's talking about people running away or raiding local farms.

I think it is talking about racism that you don't know if you should stand up for what you believe in. That racism is a war that should be fought.
