Fun.: We are Young Meaning
Song Released: 2011
We are Young Lyrics
I need to get my story straight
My friends are in the bathroom
Getting higher than the Empire State
My lover she's waiting for me
Just across the bar
My seats been taken by some sunglasses
Asking 'bout a scar...
-
This song is about someone delusional.
He hurt the girl somehow, but it was no big deal. She is moving on.
He is drunk.
He hopes she gets drunk too.
And hopes to have an alcohol fueled fun night with her (the ones that have been through it know what I mean).
But it is just in his mind.
As he keeps drinking he gets more delusional and hopes for her to get back to him.
Not happening. -
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

For the part "the moon is on my side..." I imagine everyone walking out of the pub "the angels" part might mean that the have not completely figured it out for their relationship yet on that night "but I can hear their choir" is just that the guy is drunk and dizzy and hearing things that there aren't hoping/foreseing that they will figure it out.
-
I don't think it's a physical abuse at all. I think there are mental scars. Also, Angles never arrived. Angels are a sign of hope.
-
I think people try to read too much into things. This song is a youth anthem. It's about being in your 20's, going out with your friends. You see your ex with the new guy because everyone in town goes to the same hang-out spot. Young people drink heavily and get into bar fights. Ultimately, your friends either jump in to help or end up taking you out to get you home safely or both. The chorus is just a reminder that you should take advantage of the fun you can have when you're young.

I believe it's about an abusive relationship, or maybe one incident.
Give me a second I,
I need to get my story straight-Trying to reason the incident out
My seats been taken by some sunglasses- someone who wants to date her.
Asking 'bout a scar -Physical or Emotional (from singer)
And I know I gave it to you months ago- An incident, emotional or physical.
The holes in my apologies
You know I'm trying hard to take it back- trying to fix his mistake
So if by the time the bar closes
And you feel like falling down
I'll carry you home- If she wants, he'll wait for her.
Tonight
We are young
So let's set the world on fire- Like to show them what they have or could have together.
We can burn brighter
Than the sun [x2]
I'll carry you home tonight -
I honestly love this song ! but I don't like to believe that it was an abusive relationship.. I think the scar is just her broken heart and he wants to get her back ! the pair of sunglasses is just some random guy asking why she's so upset..
-
The beautiful thing about music is that songs may be interpreted in many different ways by each individual.
It goes without saying that there was a struggle between this couple resulting in a search for atonement. They are young and will do foolish things. The optimist in me feels that they will reconcile and take on the world together. In doing so, they will put the rough past behind them and look towards a promising future with one another. -
well the guy has obviously made some mistake in the relationship ''give me a second i i need to get my story straight'' he has said something stupid while drunk or something and he knows she is trying to forgive him but he has done so many things she cant forgive him for so he just wants her to know that if she needs him he will be there for her that they are both young and if she gives him another chance that he will change and they will be an amazing couple ''we can burn brighter than the sun'' that he has all night and can wait for her to forgive him ''the moon is on my side i have no reason to run'' that she hasn't forgiven him but he can feel that she is about to ''the angels never arrived but i can hear the choir'' and maybe the lyrics ''so if by time the bar closes and you feel like falling down i'll carry you home tonight'' means that if she just feels horrible because of all the thoughts and guys hitting on her that he will be there for her. just a thought but idk
-
I think in the first verse he's explaining that he hurt her (maybe cheated on her and she's broken that's why she has a scar) and he's sorry. He knows his apologies aren't the best, but he really does mean it.
I think the chorus means that he just wants to forget about all of the drama and pain they are going through for the evening and just try to have a good time.
I think the second verse he's realizing that he's not her only option and that he may not get the ending he wants and is hurting, but when their friends are around he acts like it's no big deal.
I think the last verse is that he knows he made the mistake and there's really no taking it back. He hasn't been forgiven yet, but he knows someday he will be.
I think the end is him just letting her know that regardless of what happens he will always be there for her. -
i also think this song is about aids. i dont think there could be any other meaning.
-
I understand this interpretation differs from many here, but though it could be about a couple that is working on their relationship I believe that he gave her an STD or worse, AIDS. It's about your life falling apart around you and getting up keeps getting harder but you still see the beauty in the world you're about to so transiently leave. The comment about a pair of sunglasses asking about a scar gave a big tip- off (pustules under the skin that leave deep, recessed scars are one major visual sign that a person is afflicted by the disease.) The fact that she s trying to forget he 'gave it to her months ago' and he has no concrete apology further support the fact that this isn't a simple fight, it's a fight to enjoy the last bit of life that s left ('our friends are here so let s raise a toast'). Take it or leave it, but I think this song is replete with beautiful, but sad analogies for the above reasons.
-
Perhaps the "gave it to you months ago" means he offended her in some way. The "sunglasses asking about a scar" might be some guy she's talking to. She might tell him about how the speaker broke her heart.
Obviously he wants her back. The part i don't quite understand is the "set the world on fire" part. -
i think this song is about an abusive relationship, the guy is an alcoholic, he beats her, giving her the scars. To make up, he says he would carry her home. towards the end, he ends up drinking again and by:
"The world is on my side
I have no reason to run
So will someone come and carry me home tonight
The angels never arrived
But I can hear the choir
So will someone come and carry me home"
he dies, and the angels, and his love, carry him home for the final time... -
I personally think that maybe they just broke up and she is so hurt that, like in many break ups, she has scars physically and emotionally and a boy in sunglasses was concerned and he realizes he should be that boy asking her what was wrong . Now wholes in his apologies may also mean like maybe he doesn't know how to fully apologize or say everything he wants to tell her so in the process he ends up hurtin her. When he says "Tonight we are young , so lets set the world on fire..." he means we are young therefore let's just enjoy our time while we are still young instead of tripping over it . But that's just my thought .
