Dig Lyrics

We all have a weakness
But some of ours are easy to identify. Look me in the eye
And ask for forgiveness;
we'll make a pact to never speak that word again.
Yes, you are my friend.
We all have something that digs at us,
at least we dig...

In my opinion... I believe that his song is one of their greatest.. In Some ways I believe Brandon is singing about manic depression (Bi Polar Disorder). When you turn into someone your not, and you can't help it. You need someone there, that loves you and knows you for the real you, to be strong enough to be there and understand it can't be controlled unless they're there to act as your Lithium..

"We all have a weakness, But some of ours are easy to identify." -- We all have a weakness, some you cannot see there hidden so deep, or not physical at all...

    "Look me in the eye, And ask for forgiveness;
We'll make a pact to never speak that word again" -- I forgive you and we'll move on to be stronger together, Im still here for you.

"So when weakness turns my ego up" -- When I become proud and conceited because I am in an episode I cannot conrol...

"I know you'll count on the me from yesterday" -- I know you'll count on the strengh in me to be who I was, not who I am now.

"If I turn into another, Dig me up from under what is covering, The better part of me." --- If my episode turns me into someone I wouldn't be proud of, help me become strong enough to change what I've become for the better.

"Sing this song, Remind me that we'll always have each other, When everything else is gone." -- Tell me that we'll always be together when everything is back to normal, no matter what happens.

"We all have a sickness, That cleverly attaches and multiplies, No matter how we try." -- We all have a sickness, illness or issue that grow, and multiple, like a cancer, no matter how hard we fight to stop it, it sometimes continues to consume us.

"I know you'll act as a clever medicine." -- I know you'll be there to help heal me, be my medicine, and bring me back to reality, and who I really am, and get rid of my sickness.. ect.

Well that's what it means to me atleast.. Mainly because I have Bi Polar Disorder and I know what it's like to become someone your not. And wanting that person that left because of the illness back. Not knowing what was going on at the time; To be there for me and understand I could not help it, I couldn't control it, I need you here to help me be strong, and reasure me we'll make it through.

This song has particular meaning to me as it seems to really speak to a situation I am dealing with. The only problem is the person it truly applies to I don't think gets this. She is going through some crap in her life, and doesn't think that she is worthy of anyone loving her or caring about her. I've seen the better part of her, and she doesn't realize that she can rely on me (or anyone for that matter) to dig up that better part of her if these weaknesses/issues turn her into something else on a given day. This song is amazing on so many levels, as it obviously has multiple meanings for a lot of people.

Being diagnosed as bipolar I've come to relate to this song. During a manic episode I turn into another and I'm hoping someone can help dig me up and see that better part of me when I lost all sense of who I really am.

I believe this song has several interpretations and anyone can put their life situation into this and it will match. In the video, you see the ballerina also drinks and it seems she’s being secretive about it. In fitting into my situation, I suffer from bipolar depression and addiction so when I hear this it makes me think of a certain friend that loves me unconditionally and will always be there to help and care for me when I need him. He also knows when my depression is at its worst and I isolate for days and always is patient with me and there when I finally come around or comes to my rescue if it gets that bad. That’s what is so awesome about this song because it can apply to anyone and everyone likes a song that they can feel a connection to.

It has nothing to do with his love for a woman. Its meaning is clearly a representation of a fallen angels pact with Lucifer. One only has to look into the name of the band itself Incubus "A male demon, who was believed to have sex with sleeping human women".

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

this is as simple as this:

this song is about that "someone" that special someone who always find(dig) that beauty in you no matter how shitty you turned out to be..

"if i turn into another, you dig me up from under what is covering the better part of me, sing this song, remind us that we'll always have each other, when everything else is gone"

It's about that person who'll stick to you till the end and would still see you the way he/she used to no matter how many times you change.

When I hear this song it reminds me of what I'm going through in life right now. I'm in recovery so "sickness" to me is addiction, it "cleverly attaches and multiplies no matter how we try" it's always progressive and will always ever go away.

It fits pretty perfectly into my current position. Last year my ex and I got seriously bad into opiates, we lost everything and eventually split. Since then I've cleaned up and he has been in and out of rehab. We started talking about a month ago and realized we are still in love. So he is getting clean which is the only way we could be together. He's my best friend. And its going to be a stuggle. But we have each other.

we all have a weakness, drugs.
Ask for forgivness and we'll never speak that word again.

    If I turn into another....

It's about the person who knows you, and appreciates you - even when you "turn into another" and when "sickness turns [your] ego up." They will remind you of who you are, and you will always have each other to count on, unconditionally.

This song seems to have a strong Buddhist approach to it. If i'm wrong then my interpretation could be off. But Buddhism describes ego as " to think of other" in the sense of seeing people and things as solid individual things opposed to just one non conceptual reallity. When non conceptual consciousness starts to build concepts to solidify everything this creates a separation or ego, sense of being something separate. According to Buddhism this ego creates pain, and the so called idea of enlightenment is to break these bonds of ego and be non -conceptual and this absence of suffering and ego/attachment is suppose to naturally create compassion for others that also feel
Are suffering from ego, and this is suppose to be are 100 percent naturall state of non conceptual compassion. When he talks about digging he's saying he's trying to uncover the better part of him. The non ego part of him that naturally wants to love others and dig up others egos that's blocking their compassion, to help them see that they also want to dig up others full potential. When he says when sickness turns my ego up he's saying that when bad stuff happens he knows he's bound to think of himself out of ego and attachment, but he knows that another person would love him just the same and realize that ego is clever and it finds it's ways to make you forget to think about others. If the song writer isn't Buddhist I would be surprised, but either way the songs clearly about think about others before yourself and the joy it brings you and how it's easy to stray away from helping others but others helping you is the most clever medicine for helping you help others. Finally when everything else is gone will always have each other is pretty self explanitory. When everything we own, possess, desire goes away, we will always be there for each other and that's what it means to be human. Let's all dig up our ego, lose this "I need" attitude, and see what's underneath.

I feel like this song is about the way that we look on the outside, and all the weeknesses or perfections that we may have, I don't want you to just look at me like that, I want you to dig deep and find the real me.

i believe this song has multiple different means.. could be about being depressed about how bad your life is going.. could be a rough patch in a relationship, but to me it has everything to do with addiction, because my fiance and i had a servere addiction and i would listen to this song and cry because i really wanted him to 'dig me out from under what was covering the better side of me' and we got through it by 'always having each other, especially when everything else was gone' and still to this day, this song makes me cry because i feel like it inspired me to get us out of the terrible situation we were in.

I personally think that this song is about hatred and love mixed up together. It's this guy that sings about how he hates about what he has done to a person that <3ed him. He pretty much wants to say that he asks for forgiveness and that whenever he turns to a place that changes him to a completely different person, to "dig" in deeply until he turns back to reality! And that they will always have each other no matter what happens! :) It's a beautiful song because any1 can feel this way and any1 can relate to this song!! People that hate this song are stupid and don't know what they are saying!!

I believe it's about two friends. But one sees the other as more than a friend. 'To never speak that word again, yes you are my friend'. Even though he loves her, he promises not to try to make her feel the same, else risk their friendship. 'So when weakness turns my ego up, I know you'll count on me from yesterday'. His weakness is his love, and sometimes he can't control it, so he knows that she'll forgive him for occasionally showing it. 'Remind me that we'll always have each other when everything else is gone'. Through everything that they both go through, involving other people or both of them, because they're just friends they can always count on each other, and not worry about a friendship faltering because of a relationship they could have together.

This is my VERY favorite Incubus song. EVER.
I have it set as my ringtone for when my best friend/soul sister calls. =p
The way I see it, is similarly mentioned above.
Basically, we are all human, we all have flaws, but at least we have each other, and if we start to suck, we can pull each other out of it. +)
My best friend and I have been through a ton together. I am not a teenager, I am an adult with children and she and I have been close from childhood. We have seen each other in a million different forms but have always been able to see each other for who we really are, even when we're not at our best, and help each other through it when we're at our lowest. I really feel that is what this song is about.............

    =)

"We all have someone that digs us
    At least we dig eachother"
    - I think this means that even though we've had past trouble, heartbreak.. we have eachother now.

I think this song could be about Incubus' fame. He's talking about his ego and turning into someone else which can happen to people when they start touring and getting famous they forget where they come from and who they are. So he might be asking her to basically keep him down to earth and not let him forget who he is and where he came from and not to forget the people who were always there for him cause not everyone will always be there for you. He's saying don't let the fame go to his head "If I turn into another, dig me out from under what is covering the better part of me. sing this song, remind me that we'll always have each other when everything else is gone".
