James Blunt: Wise Men Meaning
Wise Men Lyrics
Won't you tell me what the Wise Men said?
When they came down from Heaven,
Smoked nine 'til seven,
All the shit that they could find,
But they couldn't escape from you,
Couldn't be free of...

#1 top rated interpretation:Hey guys
I too have puzzled over this interpretation!! The first line 'go steady on me' may indicate some sort of rape going on but then as you read on he talks of 3 wise men who came down from heaven. I have read other interpretations- many are convinced that these '3 wise men' may have been bullies from the past. James is now probably laughing in their face telling them that he was now great 'look whos alone now its not me' and they were nothing, merely wasting their lives away on drugs and living on a 'semi by the sea'. I am quite sure it is something about James' past that pulled him into writing this song- not for publicity but just so that he could feel good that he had accomplished something they hadn't. I dunno, but that's just my interpretation!!

#2 top rated interpretation:This song is very confusing, but I think its about three guys who seem to be perfect (hence the name 'Wisemen') but do something really stupid, like drugs, and mess up their lives. They're addicted (couldn't escape from you, theres no way out) or something and it's causing them to lose everything in their lives.
Te he he. Confusing, yet amazing -

#3 top rated interpretation:I can't believe I don't remember this, but it's a very old story from 1994 of 3 Royal Green Jackets who raped and murdered a Danish tour guide back in 1994.
Basically 3 soldiers in Cyprus in 1994 hunted down a 22 year old girl and her Cypriot boyfriend and knocked them off their scooter. They then kidnapped the girl, raped her multiple times before beating her to death. They then buried her in a shallow grave behind a police station.
They were jailed for life in 1994, then it was changed to 25 years and they were released in 2006 after serving 12 years.
The excuse was they were drunk and in fact the court gave them manslaughter instead of murder because they said they were too drunk to pre plan it.
"And they're really sorry now for what they've done,
They were three Wise Men just trying to have some fun"
This is the real interpretation, I know this to be a fact. -
Hi I posted a comment yesterday about james blunt being personal guard to the queen. I ment to say hes not allowed to talk about it but forgot the not! Sorry.
-
James blunt has given different explanations to the song that dont add up! He wasnt just military he was MI6 and personal guard to the Queen. I think this was a job he did and possibly was undercover as a performer.(thus the talent show) I think it's still something hes permitted to talk about to give an explanation for the song!

I think its about a girl james liked and she rejected him end ended up in trouble with 3 men.
-
Bullies who missed their ways later in life. It's not a publicity song, he probably sang this to feel ease that life for him is better now. Can the 3 wisemen say same of themselves?.

I believe that this songs relates specifically to three Australian men (Aust is 'heaven' compared to Indonesia) on death row in Bali for drug running. These 3 were part of the 'Bali 9'. The enormous furore in Australia was that the Australian Federal Police knew what the drug runners were doing, and to get on side with the Indonesian authorities, tipped them off rather than make the arrests on their return to Australia (nifty weren't they?). The Indonesian courts sentenced the above 3 to death, 5 to life and one, the ony female, to 20 yrs. The reason she received the 'lighter' sentence is due to her being the first to go states evidence i.e. 'go easy on me'. Listen to the song again with this as a background.

i think this song is about a group of people who accepted another into thier group and then regretted it when they realised that person was judgementel and as to occupied with impressing people. this person was then cast out.

it's about the judges on Xfactor or Pop Idol, stuff like that! listen and you'll understand

At an interview James Blunt was once asked the meaning of his song Three wise men and he said it was about his childhood and the ‘wise men’ were the kids who bullied him who have now gone nowhere in life except for getting caught up in drugs and wasting their life. Moreover they now regret all the chances they missed because they were ‘just having fun’. Also since blunt was in the military, the song could be about war.

this song is about james when he was a kid in boarding school. He was a bit of a geek and hung out with three of the rebel "cool" kids. He told them he liked a girl and trying to pick on him, they told her. She ended up liking him also and they dated. Since then the three kids have done nothing with their lives,(three wise men they've got a semi by the sea. a ramshackle house.) so james is rubbing it in. Hence, " look who's alone now it's not me..."

there were three perfect people (three wise men ) and i guess they messed their lives buy getting addicted.I guess in the video he might be one of the three wise men who got addicted. So he regrets what he has done with his life and burns his identity as in killing himself. That's the picture that came to my mind when i heard and saw the song.

Its obviously something to with the birth of Christ after that it gets a bit hazy.

Well most people seem to think it's about three guys that had good lives and messed them up with drugs....well I agree with that partly but some parts just don't fit in like "they got caught up in your talent show........" although my theory doesn't fit in with the video I think it's about a guy who was bullied when he was in school and all the people that picked on him got their lives messed up in 1 way or another and now he's the one that's happy in his life "look who is alone now its not me its not me..."...thats just what I think anyway.

I recently heard that this was to do with what happened with two soldiers from a British regiment in Cyprus. The soldiers get pissed up and raped/killed a young woman who knocked them back. They got caught before getting back to the British compound and are serving life in a cypriot prison.
This is well know in the army but someone told me recently that the song and the incident were connected.
