James Blunt: No Tears Meaning
No Tears Lyrics
I've been lucky. Guess I was born that way.
I thank my father, his absence has made me strong.
And I love my mother but she had troubles with God.
[CHORUS:]
No tears for the life that you've led
You've had...

I don’t know what is it. I’m Russian. That language is absolutely alien for me. But I sing and sing this song again and again. And I’m crying. This is the Soul and the Heart. Thx James

I saw a live video of James Blunt sing this song. His eyes appeared to be filled with tears. I returned to hear this song again. I wanted to understand why he wrote this song. I am a Spirit filled Christian. My take is of James Blunt's own Spiritual relationship with Jesus Christ. He was born to a good life. He doesn't know why. His fathers absence may have been before he had a personal relationship with God. His, I think, is referring to Mary, Jesus's Mother. Why would God give her Jesus then take Him so young? H goes back and forth to Jesus and his own life.
No tears for the life Jesus led. This was God's purpose for him. He says Jesus had angels and did Jesus hear them before he died. Then, he has been all he wanted to be, a sort of "thank you" to Jesus. So, no tears when he passes away.
He has had good times and sad times and is telling Jesus he belongs to Him. grieve for ones left behind because there is no need for tears in Heaven.
This is like a prayer being sung.
This song touches my soul. If one truely hears the words this song is beautiful

Its confusing a little. It almost sounds like hes saying it about himeself, after death. Its the chorus that makes it sound like hes talking about someone elses passing, but i think its his! The chorus could be, no tears for what they think he could have missed out on and why, then confirming that he was all he wanted to be. This could have been written when he was going through a very hard time. He is saying, lord im yours and no tears, for me. Just a thought.

I think it's more about the mother ..who brought him up the best she could in the absence of his father and could not live the life she wanted... and now she has gone ...

I love this lyrics so much. Anyone know when his father died?

sounds like the guy doesn't believe in God,why say "you've had angels in your head, did you here them singing in the end"but nice sound nice voice,i like it.

I fell it was meant for his people that he served with in the HRMA. He was a Captain in the army and saw men die. My son is an EOD tech in the USA Army and he has lost many friends. So my interpretation of the song is different than others.

It seems that this song is written from the perspective of his passing father. More or less, it conveys a kind of "no regrets" about life attitude. It is a mourning, but also a celebratory song towards his father and mother, who would not want him to cry in their absence.
Amazing song; well-written and moving.
