Linkin Park: Faint Meaning
Song Released: 2003
Faint Lyrics
Handful of complaints but I can’t help the fact that everyone can see
these scars
I am what I want you to want what I want you to feel
But it's like no matter what I do, I can't...
-
Ok first off. I know what I'm fucking talking about. "I can't feel the way I did before. don't turn your back on me. I won't be ignored." its simple. I kno from experience. This guy is getting ignored by everybody and is so fed up with it that he has to use aggression (NO HEAR ME OUT NOW!) he's tired of being ignored. He's tired of nobody listening to him. He wants to be heard. He probably felt happy before because he was so listened to (I can't feel the way I did b4) and then he did something wrong and everybody thought he was a complete freak. (don't turn your back on me I won't be ignored) he's making his message clear. He doesn't want to be ignored anymore.

I felt compelled to post my thoughts because with pages of opinions I feel like the meaning is still being missed. To me, it's much deeper.
Of course, some people are right when they say it is open to interpretation and maybe I am totally wrong. But here goes my opinion:
This song is first person. "I am" seems to be the beginning theme. "I am"
"I am" is a provocative statement for Christians and Jews alike. It is one of the most famous verses in the Torah.
Exodus 3:14
God said to Moses, "I am who I am . This is what you are to say to the Israelites: 'I AM has sent me to you.' "
For Christians, Jesus Makes the same claim John 8:58
"I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "before Abraham was born, I am!"
Jesus goes on throughout the New Testament ascribing his deity by the use of this word: I am… bread of life, I am… light of the world, I am… from above, I am… the door, I am… good shepherd, I am… resurrection and the life, I am… way, the truth and the life, I am… true vine, I am… Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, etc etc.
The point I am trying to make? Read the Lyrics again, listen to the song.
"I am what I want you to want, what I want you to feel"
Religion teaches us to be "God Like"
"But it's like no matter what I do, I can't convince you
To just believe this is real"
Religion teaches us that we believe by faith. In general,People today do not have faith, that is why religions are dying.
"So I let go watching you turn your back like you always do."
God gives us free Will.
Face away and pretend that I'm not
Atheism
"But I'll be there 'cause you're all that I've got."
LP is trying to Say God is a small minded egomaniac who needs us more then we need Him. This is the ongoing and not so subtle underlying theme of the song.
"'Cause you don't understand, I do what I can
But sometimes I don't make sense"
Different Religions teach that God's ways are higher then ours and we would never have the intellectual capacity to understand why He does what he does.
Again the underlying and important theme of this song is, God is a small minded egomaniac who needs us more then we need Him. -
Hes angry, he's had enough. He wants something done. He's fed up of no-one listening. He's had some bad shit happen, but no one cares,
He'll always be there because there the only person that's been there for him,
they are his life, but they won't listen,
He can't feel the same about them, he wants something done and he wants it done now. He can't feel the same about them because they won't listen, it's all about them,
IDK, in my head I understand it, but when I'm typing it it comes out wrong. -
It's not about a guy who thinks his girl is putting him down... fuck that it's about how everyone wants everyone to think something about them and how no one believes that persona... I mean c'mon it's obvious.

I think it is about a person who is always being ignored, they have so many problems, and it's changed them (I can't help the fact that everyone can see these scars).
Now the ignoring part (I won't be ignored!!) is like, the person is being frowned upon and not believed about their troubles because people think they're faking for attention.
They try to meet everyone's expectations, but they just can't do it.
Ah I can't explain it with words but it makes sense in my head... -

Wow. I feel bad for you now, dude. Well, at least that is what is nice about music. It's just made of emotional feelings that are barly concrete enought to be understood and flexible enough to let you give them your own twist. And that's exactly what you did with this song. Rock on.

hi, I guess my interpretation is gonna be a bit strange...and some people might not like it...and I am also convinced it is not the one intended by the writers, so no point in people flaming me about it.
i am currently very confused about my own sexuality, and I believe I might be gay.
"I am what I want you to want, what I want you to feel
But it's like no matter what I do, I can't convince you
To just believe this is real"
people often think gay is a chosen path, so to them it is not real...to me, this song is addressed to my parents...
"I can't feel the way I did before
Don't turn your back on me
I won't be ignored "
actually I'm not there yet, coz I've not told them, but I know it is the reaction I can expect...
"I am, what you never wanna say, but I've never had a doubt
It's like no matter what I do I can't convince you for once just to hear me out "
it's like "I know I am gay", but I can't convince you
"Hear me out now
You're gonna listen to me like it or not
Right now"
its when this gay kid/teenager is now pissed...
again, this is probably an unconventional interpretation, but it's the way I connect to this song...LP makes my lone bearable... -
