Maroon 5: Daylight Meaning
Song Released: 2012
Daylight Lyrics
Why am i, holding on?
We knew this would come, we knew it all along
How did it, come so fast?
This is our last night but it's late
And i'm trying not to sleep
Cause I know, when I wake, I will have...

#1 top rated interpretation:I was with my husband when he died of cancer. It was in the middle of the night, and we knew by the time the morning came, we would be apart. That is what I hear when this song comes on the radio. But,it's a good memory because we were together.

#2 top rated interpretation:I think this song is special. I don't think it has to do with one night anythings. I think it has to do with a long built relationship or friendship, and then the departure. Friendship. It doesn't mean that they ended off on a bad note, and instead want to spend their last moments together. They are forced to depart, whether it's leaving a school, moving away, anything that comes in between to separate us. I can relate this song to graduation and leaving my friends. Anyone can, but I do not think it's about one night stands or anything of the sort. It's a song that shows meaning of the last night. It shows the contrast between the night and the day, and how different things can be within just that short amount of time. The night that daylight will apply to you is when you will finally realize what this song is about, and I have realized what it was about sing my "Daylight" night happened recently.
"Here I am waiting, i'll have to leave soon
Why am i, holding on?
We knew this day would come, we knew it all along
How did it, come so fast?"
It was a set day, that would have come sometime sooner or later but he didn't face it. They know they would have to depart, as everyone does one day, and he's wondering why the day is now today- the day they new they'd have to face. He's wondering why he spent all his time holding on and trying to preserve their time if they knew it'd all be over.
"This is our last night but it's late
And I'm trying not to sleep
Cause I know, when I wake, I will have to slip away "
This is implying that it's their last night together and it's their time for them to be together and make the last moments meaningful. The next day they will slip away, they will not be together anymore and will drift off. Slipping away isn't an immediate departure, but if there is something that will happen that will keep them from being together, and slowly cause them to drift such as leaving your friends and not being in the same school, it is hard to keep in touch with them- you still can, but you will slip away.
"And when the daylight comes I'll have to go
But tonight I'm gonna hold you so close
Cause in the daylight we'll be on our own
But tonight I need to hold you so close "
This is very clear. The daylight is the next day, and he is savoring the tonight.
"Here I am staring at your perfection
In my arms, so beautiful
The sky is getting bright the stars are burning out
Somebody slow it down "
The perfection could be physical, that it is someone of beauty and someone who he loves, or it could be a perfection of their friendship. He is making out everything of their last time together, and their togetherness. He wants the time to stop and he doesn't want the sky to get brighter because the time is nearing.
"This is way too hard, cause I know
When the sun comes up, I will leave
This is my last glance that will soon be memory "
One of my favorite lines of the song... There is always a last time for everything and this is his last glance that he will ever get to look at his time together with that person, and this time that he is now present in will soon turn into a memory he will always cherish. He is creating his memory.
"I never wanted to stop because I don't wanna start all over, start all over
I was afraid of the dark but now it's all that I want, all that I want, all that I want "
Again, I can relate this to the graduating or leaving your friends bit. He never wanted to leave, or graduate, or start a new beginning because then he would to go through the whole process of hello's and goodbye's again. He isn't ready to start his new process because he feels like it's not ready to finish, so he's clinging onto the dark because he's afraid of starting the new scary stage.
This song is totally relatable to anyone. -

#3 top rated interpretation:It might seem odd but to me it sounds like one of them are dying &they are spending their last night together. Great song many meanings

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
-
I think it’s about someone who’s in the military, and is being deported. He doesn’t know if he’ll make it back, so he’s cherishing this moment with his partner

I think no matter the meaning it is a powerful song that we all associate with our own meaning and memory.

I want to make the song more the pop and every time when we record the song it’s so good with backup singers and we have the drums to come out. And I really loved the message of the song if someone holds you and it’ll still be love but I just got a boyfriend his name is Ben, he is my friend at my high school and so he did track and we met at capernaum club. And so we hold hands and be yourself into my hold up with him.
-
I think it’s something about the army.

Whenever I hear this song I am reminded of a trip I took to Yosemite in the June of my summer of 2nd grade. I went with my family and some family friends including my best friend/non blood brother. When were there we met another family who was in the tent cabin next to ours and I became really close with the girl who was my age and was named Isabella. Me and her became really close and we both after a while realized that we were going to eventually have to go home but she lived in San Francisco and I lived in LA and we didn’t have phones or anything back then. The Night before we left we had so much fun and me her and my friend Adrain went on the best adventure of the trip yet and we had so much fun. The next day I had to leave for home but she would still be there for two more days. When I left and got home was very sad and when I went to sleep I cried a little. A few months later I came across this song and whenever I listened to it it brought me back to those wonderful days in June. It has been 7 years now and I still remember everything and I still miss her. I hope she reads this

I think is about being in love but Jonas brothers would put me in the studio, they would let me do open up the binder and I can practice with nick and Kevin

The lyrics is inappropriate. This is like a goodbye song and their last night together will only haunt them for the rest of their lives.
Made a mistake with my comment which is being reviewed.
Regarding your cousin Beth/Bethany, this is not the appropriate song for cousins. -
The lyrics is a goodbye song. Who in their right mind would want to have a kind of goodbye like this? This is inappropriate and would only haunt them for the rest of their lives. They should not meet anymore.
In love with your cousin/bestfriend Bethany/Beth.......... Cousins should not be in love with each other.
Love someone who is not a relative.
Respect your boundaries. -
I was with my cousin Beth. I’m her cousin to have, and so. This song reminds me of my best friend Beth, I really loved having her as a cousin. I really missed her so much. The love is a blessing to Bethany. That’s why I sang that song to her.

this song tells me about a husband/wife who is watching as their wife/husband are bording the air plant to go fight in a battle over seas. This song also tells me about a family who has lost so many loved ones and they know that they will see there loved ones someday soon.

When my ex boyfriend came here yesterday (09/09/18) he started playing this song when I was laying down on the bed. He tried to cuddle me, asked for a kiss, and he held my hand that night. When he went home I asked him something and he said that he was mad at me because he didn't got to kissed me which I didn't let him kissed me back because he's not my boyfriend anymore.I then realized why is he playing that song, he was playing it because when I talked to one of his friends his friend told me that he still missed me like he tells him stuff all the time. He also told me that he was looking for someone else to help him get over me. His friend also said that it's really hard to get over me for him and that he can tell that he's still still over me.

This song is about a man who's with a special someone but they're about to leave each other....
"This is our LAST night, but i'm trying not to sleep cause I know when I wake, I will to SLIP AWAY"
And ya that line pretty much sums it all up
