It's about a person who fights something or someone, and cannot win, no matter how much energy this person puts into the fight. It's about fighting impossible odds, and simply not being able to win. The song describes the characters descent into big f'n trouble and also describes the character's willingness to die rather than lose, almost as if losing where equivalent to dying in the character's view.
The message is ambiguous, it doesn't specify if the mindset of the character is lent to self destruction or if the advancement of the fight has put the character in a no winner and the character already knows it.
