My Chemical Romance: The Light Behind Your Eyes Meaning
The Light Behind Your Eyes Lyrics
Everyone of them met tragic ends,
With every passing day,
I’d be lying if I didn’t say,
That I miss them all tonight…
And if they only knew what I would say,
If I could be with you tonight…...

I think this song is very Catcher in the Rye related (Gerard's and Frank's favourite book); it's about not losing your childhood innocence - the light behind your eyes. I like the idea that it could be a suicide note, though. I don't quite think that fits in with the first line, which would go better with the fact that all of Gerard's (and Holden's) friends have grown up, it's a note to Bandit (and Phoebe) not to grow up, I guess. Boy Division (Track 1 of Conventional Weapons) is also (I think) about Holden's view on funerals, how he wouldn't want to die because all his relatives ("my enemies") would arrange the funeral and wouldn't really care, only pretend to. Depressing shit, right?

to me this song isn't about depression at all. Its about the passing of time. A few others of his songs touches on the fact that as you grow older more and more of the people around you start to die (What death isn't tragic? Some fast, some slow and painful, those left behind). And that you wish you could hold them and tell them that they lived on in people's hearts. Also he is saying that he himself one day will also die, and that the people around him, like he had to be, must stay strong and burn brightly as much as others had before him.
That in itself is depressing, thinking of your loved ones die around you, and it is hard, and still you only want the people you leave behind to be happy and truly living their lives brightly. -
This song is beautiful. The lyrics could be seen as a letter to a daugher (or Bandit), the band talking to their fans if they were to break up or about anyone facing depression, suicidal thoughts, or sucide. I think that the beauty in this song comes from the diversity to relate to these reasons and more - helping whomever it touches. Just simply writing the lyrics "Never let them take the light behind your eyes.." is so powerful. It can apply to everything that makes your being, the light that fights the dark or dark thoughts, happiness, and even life in general - and so much more. Top of my list for a tattoo, to carry these inspiration words in appearence for all to see would mean more than words ever could express.

Im Swiss, so sry when i write wrong or misunterstood something. Maybe the song is about their friends, realtives.. who comitted suicide. BUt if they had a chance, they would hang on them, sing them to sleep and never let them take away the light behind your eyes(their happiness, their will to live to go forwards), they would protect you or in this sort of way." One day, I’ll lose this fight… As we fade in the dark, just remember you will always burn as bright"It doesnt matter how it ends, that you will be in their toughts and still alive.
"Be strong, and hold my hand.
Time becomes for us, you’ll understand. We’ll say goodbye today,
And we’re sorry how it all ends this way…
If you promise not to cry, then I will tell you just " Yes its very hard now, but you have to be strong and remember i will be there for you and if those hard times passed away, you will understand and will have learned and got stronger.
Maybe they want to give back the strenght to live, to get back the light behind their eyes to those ppl who are thinking about suicide or having a difficult time and no matter what happens, they are always ppl who loves you. Its like as if they want everyone to say:"Im not afraid to keep on living, Im not afraid to walk this world alone!" :)
This is my interpretation of this song. Its not easy to write all your thoughts in English, i have so much more to say, but those thoughts are in German.^^
This song is actually so beautiful that no words can describe it. -
I think everyone reads off it based on their personal experiences and I admit I do too. To me it's about friends he's lost, who've died ' so long to all my friends, everyone of them met tragic ends' maybe through suicide. He missed them and wishes he could speak to them again "next verse basically". He wants to give them a message.
He then moves into talking to them. Telling them that he wants to sing them to sleep, maybe either easing their way into suicide or literally just something nice and innocent and pure.
"Never let them take the light behind your eyes' - this is both about innocence and life, he wants them to stay clean of dark thoughts and also stay alive, the life represents both.
However, he knows that they killed themselves, so he knows he can't stop them dying -well lose this fight
But he's telling them he won't forget them and they're amazing - burn as bright
Then he just comforts them a lot
Light behind your eyes I think maybe is also happiness, he wants to remember them at their best
I've obviously taken a lot from personal experience but that's what it means to me -
The way I saw it was like it was written for the fans. Like at the end of TBP era, mcr didn't know if they'd make it through. They thought the band was over. Maybe pieces of this song were written at that time? And it's like to the fans, if depression would've or will ever get the best of them, we have to keep going. I'm sure that's not actually what it's about, but that's just what I thought when I first heard it.

Well considering he said that it was based off of a letter he wrote to his daughter Bandit to read when she reached a certain age, i think that he is basically telling her that no matter what, to keep going. The lyric says "If i fail and lose this fight, never fade in the dark, just remember you will always burn as bright" and my interpretation of that is no matter if he fails or she fails he wants her to never give up and never stop trying to pull through because he will never be disapointed in her, as long as she still burns bright and strong.

i think this song is meant to be like, best friends, or a couple. the singer loves someone, and they are fighting to keep that person happy, to keep them away from committing suicide. but i also think its like, he nows he can't keep her from the sadness, and hes falling into the sadness too, and he wants her to know that even though he wont be there to protect her anymore, she has to keep fighting, and to never give up.

This song made me cry. I love MCR. I really, really do. They save lives. I look so far up to each member of the band, as well as the band as a whole.
I cried. It's so relevant, and Gerard's voice just hits home. He's telling everyone suffering out there, everyone who needs help, that you are strong. -
I think this is written from the point of view of someone with depression. They know one day they will "lose this fight", but they want their friends and family to be happy, even if one day soon, they will be dead. Basically, they're trying their best to keep their friends and family happy in the meantime, and kind of make up for his/her planned suicide.
