Oasis: Cast No Shadow Meaning
Cast No Shadow Lyrics
Who tries to understand what is in his hands
He walks along the open road of Love & Life
surviving if he can
Bound with all the weight of all the words he tried to say
Chained to all the places...

#1 top rated interpretation:I hear this song was about Richard Ashcroft of The Verve ... but I'm going to try to interpret this song.

"Here's a thought for every man
Who tries to understand what is in his hands
(What's in his hands)
He walks along the open road of love and life
Surviving if he can
(Surviving if he can)"
-- The first 2 lines probably of someone trying to understand what they have (ex. Life). Maybe he has a hard time with love & has trouble with his life; in other words has many problems living his life.
"Bound with all the weight of all the words he tried to say
Chained to all the places that he never wished to stay
Bound with all the weight of all the words he tried to say
As he faced the sun he cast no shadow"
-- First 3 lines, he wants to say something to someone, but can't & regrets not being able to have said what he wanted, now he is stuck where he doesn't want to be. And doesn't cast a shadow, possibly his "soul" has been taken from him. In other words, he's depressed.
"As they took his soul they stole his pride (pride)"
-- As mentioned before, they took his soul ... at the same time stole his pride (def. a feeling of self-respect and personal worth). Now he is lifeless & depressed.
Cool. Awesome song about whom ever; basically the song is about something happening that lead to his/her life being depressed, and that is how he/she has been left .. "casting no shadow". -
I interpreted this song as a very sad song with a lot of truth trying to be said but with the words being hard to say or explain. I think as he or she cast no shadow he/she is standing in the light and has no darkness or shadow left after all the words and hurt he’s trying to say.
-
That the shadow was like in peter pan it ran away to go rape other shadows.
-
its about richard ashcroft losing his royalties in the song he wrote "bitter sweet symphony" the manager and laywers of rolling stone filed a suit and won. they took his soul and pride as an artist.
-
Change the lyrics 'words he tried to say' with 'debts he tried to pay'.
People are now debt slaves and chained to jobs and places they don't want to be as a result.
Despite expensive degrees their miniscule contributions to the world cast no shadow. All their effort is for nothing but making the rich richer. Oasis had a crystal ball and could tell the future, their other songs prove it. -
Maybe it's a song about being who you are and not looking behind u. just seeing who you are and shining bright bright like a flame a flame casts no shadow.
No I highly doubt that but good metaphor anyway

The lyrics I used to write Cast no shadow .were wrote to support John Lennon in his campaign for world peace . I watched the Imagine Video where John Lennon is in the New York Times , News office . Saying to the secretary That he was`nt happy with what was headlined in the News paper and said ``I`m on a campaign for Peace `` the secretary replies . ``Your a lunatic John` .
Everybody casts a shadow as we face the Sun . John Lennon was attempting to make world peace . The line ` As he faced the Sun he cast no shadow `means John Lennon wanted to make world peace but was unable too . His true shadow wasnt cast .
The Lyrics below are about John Lennons attempt to make world peace :-
Here's a thought for every man who tries to understand
What is in his hands
He walks along the open road of love and life
To find it if he can
Bow with all the weight of all the words he tried to say
Chained to all the places that he never wished to stay
Bow with all the weight of all the words he tried to say
As he faced the sun he cast no shadow
As they took his soul they stole his pride
As he faced the sun he cast no shadow
Here's a thought for every man who tries to understand
What is in his hands
He walks along the open road of love and life
To find it if he can
Bow with all the weight of all the words he tried to say
Chained to all the places that he never wished to stay
Bow with all the weight of all the words he tried to say
As he faced the sun he cast no shadow
As they took his soul they stole his pride
As he faced the sun he cast no shadow
As he faced the sun he cast no shadow
As he faced the sun he cast no shadow -
This songs reminds me not to curl up in a corner and be invisible to the world "Cast no shadow" as the song says. To stand up and be counted, to leave your mark and be proud of your life.

This song is about being a man.
"Here's a thought for every man who tries to understand what is in his hands"
It's about the road all men travel.
"He walks along the open road of love and life surviving if he can."
It's about difficulty of self-expression and the feeling of frustration that comes with that.
"Bound with all the weight of all the words he tried to say"
It's about certain things always being part of you whether you want to leave them behind or not. Therefore not feeling free.
"Chained to all the places that he never wished to stay"
...and the end result: lack of self-value and pride.
"As he faced the sun he cast no shadow"
An obvious reference to his state of emotions as a result of feeling imprisoned.
"As they took his soul they stole his pride." -
This song isnt about Richard Ashcroft. Noel has said in interviews he dedicated the song to him when he was going through a hard time, but was never actually written about him
-
I think this is sort of a post love song. a guy can't figure out his life and he has been open to love but it always ended badly for him. He tried to tell a girl he loved her but got shot down and kicked out of her life. It took his pride to get rejected like that. But he doesn't look back at it with hard feelings( he casts no shadow).
