Of Monsters and Men: Sinking Man Meaning
Sinking Man Lyrics
Wrapping its arms around me,
Pulling me down to the deep.
All eyes on me.
I pushed you away
Although I wished you could stay.
So many words left unsaid,
But I'm all out of breathe.
So, go, go, go,
Get out of here.
Go...

Most definitely gives the feel of the losing battle against depression.

Maybe I've been watching too much Criminal Minds, or I'm just trying to become a profiler, but here is my interpretation: For years this "cold, dark, sea" (aka depression) has been slowly taking hold of her, and now, she doesn't have the strength to fight it anymore. She is simply giving up. She is also pushing away her loved ones, not wanting to get attached, simply because she doesn't want to hurt them when she decides to "end it". Perhaps she doesn't quite realize it, but part of her reasons that by acting cold and distant, they will simply give up, and they won't care so much when she commits suicde.
I also don't really know why, but I just feel like she has a small son, just a toddler. She has so many things to say to him, but she can't say them because he's so small, and won't understand. She also pleads with him to leave her alone, because she doesn't want him to see her like this.
And finally, for the not-so-grand finale, when she "falls asleep", (most likely in a hospital room, with her friends and family around her in these emotional final moments) she knows that they are watching her slip away, but most of all, she feels her toddler watching her die. For another unexplained reason, I feel as though she is relieved that her son will never know his true mother. Perhaps he will feel ashamed of her later, but she doesn't care. She will love him even in death, and it doesn't matter that she will never see him again. For her, all that matters now is that she has found peace. -
I seem to agree, this story seems to be about a Man(because it is called "Sinking man") who has depression. cold dark sea seems to be a metaphor for their loneliness and pushing away the people who are trying to help them, only making the depression worse.
