Of Monsters and Men: Sloom Meaning
Sloom Lyrics
so the sun wouldn't notice
the seaweed that wrapped its,
arms around you
The carpet on my cheek
feels like a forest
and i run through the tall trees
with you're hand chasing me
The books that i keep...

It is about star crossed lovers who only get to hold each other maybe once.

This is my take on "Sloom" by Of Monsters and Men:
The song, from the end to the beginning, is the story of a kidnapping (possibly stalking) and murder. Yes, I know, quite dark. "I met a man today, and he smiled back at me. Now there are thoughts like these that keep me on my feet, that keep me on my feet." This is them meeting; I interpret her thought to be that this guy is a big strange, therefore "keeping her on her feet". The middle, when you start thinking of the story like this, is pretty self-explanatory. The beginning of the song - the end of the story - is showing that the girl's body (gruesome) has been dumped in a body of water: "The see said goodbye to the shore so the sun wouldn't notice the seaweed that wrapped its arms around you." In the chorus, the girl pleads that her family will not forget her even after she is gone. -
In my opinion (I'm going through what I think the interpretation is) that a person has fallen madly in love with someone who is all they have ever wanted. But the other person doesn't know.
"A little dream of mine, a little nightmare of yours." Refers to the dreams of being together, but the other not knowing it is true.
"The sea said goodbye to the shore so the sun wouldn't notice." Refers to not being able to talk, be close to, or look directly in the eyes of the 'crush'. The person says goodbye to the other so they wouldn't notice the love.
"And I run through the tall trees, with your hand chasing me." Refers to the person's crush trying to find out why the other is not socializing with them, and the person running away from the truth.
"To be a better man." Refers to trying to get rid of the crush on the other person, but not being able to.
"And I'll meet your eyes for the very first time, for the very last." Means looking into their eyes one more time, for a memory, knowing that it may as well be for the very last time. -
It's a love story told backwards. Kind of like a Romeo and Juliet theme. They are talking to their parents for most of the song this hint is given when they say, "So love me mother, and love me father, and love my sister/brother as well." Their sister/brother could be the one they love, and they are asking their parents to love them as well. The whole brother sister theme doesn't have to be love as in boyfriend/girlfriend, it could be like the love in friendship.

This song is about a boy and his family moving away from their old house, maybe a house he has been in his whole life and then he moves to the city. He doesn't exactly fit in at first but then at the end a man smiles at him and he feels ok.
