Of Monsters and Men: Wars Meaning
-
I think the song is about two parents going through a divorce and the perspective is in the eyes of a child going through the process. "Love you on the weekends" to me means that one of the parents gets visitation on the weekends. "But I'm careless and I'm wicked" Means the parent is irresponsible. The fact that they both sing the lyrics means it leaves up to your interpolation on whether or not the husband or wife is being the bad parent. Lastly, them saying its a "Cruel War" means that both of the parents are fighting for the child's love to be with them in the end.

I believe this song is about a man who wants to get out of casual relationship. “Can’t love you on the weekends, it’s a cruel war” Implies that she makes him come home after having sex? I also think this because of the lines”try to laugh about it, like it’s okay. That’s how it’s supposed to be.” He jokes around but has actual feelings for her. The “war” is going on his brain.it’s a war between admitting being in love and keeping the secret.
