Of Monsters and Men: Six Weeks Meaning
Six Weeks Lyrics
her blood on my bones
let go, lay to rest
we fall, we fall, we fall
we fall to the ground
sleep, sleep all night
while the young, they wait alone
get up, shake the rust
we crawl, we crawl, we crawl,
we crawl on the...

The song is more literal than you think. It's about Hugh Glass, the man upon whom the movie The Revenant was based.

I think it's about mothers, with how it talks about "her blood on my bones." It doesn't quite signify murder because that would have to be "blood on my hands." The former makes it seem as if the blood is a part of the singer: their blood inherited from mother. Mothers have to "shake the rust" from their "sleep all night" in order to care for their "young, they wait alone". The singer talks about his mother who "follows him into the woods" and takes him home to safety afterwards.

I think that this song is about somebody stricken with grief or guilt because somebody that they loved has died ("her blood on my bones")and now they are facing the world on their own. The "animals" signify the burden they are carrying. As the song progresses, they struggle to overcome their grief and survive, or "come home". In the third verse, they talk about their grieving state as they are trying to let go of their constricting emotions. In the end of the song, when "she follows me into the woods, takes me home" I think that they are finally able to come to terms with the situation, and adapt to life without that person.
