One Direction: Fool's Gold Meaning
Fool's Gold Lyrics
You’re the shining distraction that makes me fly
I’m like a boat on the water
You’re the raise on the waves that calm my mind
Oh every time
And I know in my heart you’re not a constant star
And yeah I’ve let you...

By far one of my favorite songs on the album, Fool's gold really gets to me. I think its about a guy/ girl enjoying being in another guy/ girl's company/ or being in love with them. They become so attached to them because there's just something about that person that's so captivating. When that person leaves them, they begin to over think everything. They begin to compare their relation ship with the other girl/guy's relationship with other people. They want to let go of this person, but its so hard to let go of the memories that come along with them.
"I knew that you turned it on for everyone you met"
"And I know your love's not real/ That's not the way it feels" -
I think song is about a guy who loves a girl, who he knows doesn't love him back.
"Yeah, I know your love's not real
That's not the way it feels
That's not the way you feel"
The girl is using him and doesn't love him, but he doesn't care he loves her.
"And yeah, I let you use me from the day that we first met
But I'm not done yet falling for you, fool's gold
And I knew that you turned it on for everyone you met
But I don't regret, falling for you, fool's gold?"
Just my interpretation, might be different to you. :) -
I think this song is about the girl who used him to make her feel good but he still loves her. That's what "fools gold" is.

Fools Gold looks beautiful but beneath the surface it hold no value and is nothing more than a lump of rock. I interpret this song as them dating a really beautiful person who has everyone falling at their feet but when they get to know said person they realise that they have no sustenance and no personality. I think it links to the people who they have previously been out with and failed to have a successful relationship with due to them realising that the other person is basically a piece of 'fools gold'. I think that they are discovering that they want a partner who is as beautiful inside as they are out.

I may be wrong, but I personally think that this song is about a relationship that the girl used the guy, which is clearly stated in the chorus. The guy fell for the girl, and gets blinded by her beauty, but yet, he doesn't regret falling for her. No matter how he's hurt, he still loves her. That's pretty cute.
"I know your love's not real,
That's not the way it feels
That's not the way it feels."
Those lines are pretty much the summary of the song. It's either the girl used to love him but not anymore, or the girl is using him for fame, money etc.
