   if you change all the girls into boys, its about a boy realising that hes gay, and that he finds another boy who is also like him and telling him its okay.

   At first listen you may think this song is about sex. But if you change the pronouns in this song from female to male, it stops being a song about a sex addict and turns into a song about battling internalized homophobia and learning to except yourself and who you are.

   Yes the first lyrics have to do with having a sex addiction, but I don't think this is the main theme of this song. I feel like that was one example. This song is tryig to say maybe there is something that you like to do that makes you feel alive, but some people think it's wrong or don;t like it so they judge you. I think this song is saying that don't let people jugde you if it makes you feel alive keep doing it. I love to sing but what if i suck and evryone says so then I'll keep trying because it makes me feel alive.

   Alive is basically about a guy who is gay and his fight against homophobia because he will worry what his friends will think if he comes out and like his mother sent him to therapy because a lot of unsupportive parents will do that to try and "fix " their child but really like he can't change so the therapist just says it's okay and do whatever you want

    when I first heard this song, I honestly thought it was about just liking many girls. I'm at a certain age now to where I'm actually starting to feel that it IS about having a sex addiction. you see, I've been a Directioner since 2010/2011 (and I still am). so it is very hard for me to believe One Direction would write a song about sex, and it also one of my favorite songs on the album. but oh well.
