One Direction: History Meaning
Song Released: 2015
History Lyrics
Keep getting the feeling you wanna leave this all behind
Thought we were going strong
I thought we were holding on
Aren't we?
No they don't teach you this in school
Now my heart's breaking and I don't...

#1 top rated interpretation:I believe the song is about Zayn and all of the history they have with him and how they always seemed to make it out okay except for this one time.

#2 top rated interpretation:It's the last song before break. And I think it's about and for fans. And tell us that "this is not the end" and the band will be together again.
And I think they went for a break because (they were all the time when they existed at the top of their glory) they thought their fame would soon fall because you can't be all the time at the top of your glory.
And when they will be together again people will be talk again about them. And their glory will increase and be greater than ever.
But they couldn't tell us that they will be together again because it would lose the meaning. So maybe this is the way how tell us that they will be together again.
And the song 'history' wanted to assure us that this is not the end. And maybe this is the reason why it's the last song.
(I'm Czech so sorry for the mistakes)

#3 top rated interpretation:I believe that the lines of Harry and Niall are about the thoughts of the fans like "You gotta help me I'm losing my mind keep getting the feeling you wanna leave this all behind thought we were going strong thought we were holdin on aren't we?" Like the fans always thinks that 1D are about to break up and nialls line goes like "No they don't teach you this in school now my hearts breaking and I don't know what to do thought we weren't going strong thought we were holdin on arent we?"
And in the chorus i believe that they mean that them and the fans got a whole lotta history so
And in Louis and Liam's lines I believe that they sing about the band's thoughts like "All of the rumors all of the fights but we always find a way to make it all alright thought we were going strong thought we were holdin on arent we?" I think this means the Larry shippers and rumors of the band fighting and etc.
louis's line goes like "Mini bars, expensive cars
Hotel rooms and new tattoos
And the good champaige and private planes
But they don’t mean, anything
Cause the truth is out, I’ve realized
That without you here, life is just a lie
This is not the end, this is not the end
We can make it, you know it, you know" its like they sayin that it's not the end for them and they'll be back soon
So keep calm and wait directioners their solo careers are just temporary like adam levine having solo music outside maroon 5 let's all wait directioners -
Its about making the fans cry and for it to keep making them sad for the years to come louis said he promised
-
Louis wrote it and he was the one who didn't want the hiatus. So I think the chorus is him begging the others to stay. The first verse sounds like he is describing his feelings about the band taking a break. Liam's part says that no matter what happened, they always got through it somehow. And I think that Louis is trying to say "Why should it be different now or in the future?" Louis' solo says "'Cause the truth is out, I realise that without you here life is just a lie". I think he said in an interview that it was at first really hard for him without the boys and that's basically what that line says.
I'm sorry if my English wasn't always right. I hope you understood everything. -
I think history is about how much they made and not just the records but how many memories everyone especially the band has made because they made a lot of little things that still live in all of us and so many they have of their own it's a song about what they don't teach you in school how much you should make of the time you have together because these boys made their own history and proof that the best things in life come out of know where in the craziest ways because they made history and they made it like nothing you can learn in a class room
-
Looking at the Music Video and listening to the lyrics it's for Zayn Malic and there are lines that are of course for the fans. For me, they are saying that even they lose a member, they can make some more new history.
and the last lines "So don't let me go, so don't let me go
We can live forever
Baby, don't you know, baby, don't you know
We can live forever" is definitely for the fans. -
i think this song is quite obvious to break down. seeing this as their last song --
the line that says , "Youve gotta help me, im loosing my mind, keep getting this feeling you wanna leave this all behind"
is a refrence to directioners. saying that are they really going to leave them. some other things, "thought we were holding on, thought we were going strong" is ANOTHER refrence to directioners. they thought they were going to stick together for a much longer time. "without you here, life is just a lie" meaning that the directioners are going to be sad and lonely when they are gone! i really hope this explains something.. -
I know the boys said on twitter that History is about the fans, but for me, the lyrics hint to something else entirely. This song is either meant for a friend/lover who wanted out. Let me break down the lyrics so you'll understand it better.
"I get the feeling you want to leave this all behind": Why would their dedicated fans want to leave everything all behind? Unless that line is meant for a friend/lover who wanted out of the band.
"I thought we were going strong. I thought we were holding on, aren't we?": alludes again to a person wanting to leave and the writer is trying to remind them/convince them to stay.
"They don't teach you this in school. My heart is breaking and I don't know what to do": Still alludes to what the first line was about. The writer never learned how to deal with the pain of a friend/lover leaving them behind, hence the heartbreak. Generally speaking, no ones learns about matters of the heart at school.
"We got a whole lot of history, so don't let it go. We can make some more.": basically the writer is trying to lure the friend/lover back with the promise of making more lovely memories.
"All of the rumours and the fights. We always find a way to make it out alive": Again, that one person wanting to leave and the writer asking them to stay with tempting words like 'the fights never broke us up, so why do you want to leave now?
"Mini bars, expensive cars, hotel rooms new tattoos, private planes: etc has no connection to the fans in any way shape or form. We don't share those things with them. But they share these moments between themselves.
"The truth is out. I've realised that without you here. Life is just a lie": Basically, the writer who has everything life can offer has just realized that without that friend/lover by their side, living is a lie. So, this is them telling their friend/lover not to leave.
"This is not the end. We can make it, you know it": the writer still trying to convince the friend/lover that although things looked bleak at that point in time, that they can still prevail.
Lyrically, this song is about someone wanting to leave and being pleaded with to not go. Fans will never leave, never. So, unless the fans themselves wrote it for One Direction, then this song was never meant for them. -
I feel like the song is about the band and its history. Mainly because they have been together for years and they have to take their own path at some point.
-
The song History is obviously a massive look back on what’s lead the boys up to their final album together before the hiatus. The song also touches on how the fans developed their undying love, dedication, and support to the boys throughout the years. We can also see how the guys talk about “ this is not the end. We can make it. You know it. You know. ” they are speaking directly to the fans saying, “ we will be back someday. We’ll get through this together. ”
The song History is directly for the fans who have supported them throughout their five year career. “ We can live forever. ” means that the band hopes the name One Direction will be known and talked about for as long as possible. Here we are, five years after the hiatus, and One Direction is still talked about and the music is still being listened to, by the dedicated fans. -
I think the song was to Zayn Malik cause its not like we used to go on private planes with them and one direction is a team and that is why he said they would be the greatest team in the world and everything meant nothing without him
-
The boys never really truly say the meaning of their songs. It’s all up for interpretation so here's mine. I believe the lines before the chorus are the point of view of their fandom. Harry Styles’ lines go ‘You gotta help me, I’m losing my mind. Keep getting the feeling you wanna leave this all behind. Thought we were going strong. Thought we were holding on. Aren’t we?’ Meaning, the fandom is scared that the ‘Boys’ want to leave the band because they have everything they need and they want to focus on their solo careers. Niall Horan’s lines go, ‘No they don’t teach ya this is school. Now my hearts breaking and I don’t know what to do. Thought we were going strong. Thought we were holding on. Aren’t we?’ This means, schools don’t teach kids about growing apart and heartbreak. Fans in this scenario are questioning whether or not they were truly happy in the band.
Now, the chorus is the point of view of the band. They all sing ‘You and me, got a whole lotta history. We can be the greatest team that the world has ever seen. You and me, got a whole lotta history. So don't let it go, we can make some more. We can live forever’ One Direction here are telling us that they too don’t want to let their fandom go since they have helped them grow as artists and that the fandom has a ‘whole lotta history’ together. ‘So don’t let it go, we can make some more. We can live forever’ is how the band does not want us to let them go because they want to make more memories.
Liam Pyane sings ‘All of the rumours, all of the fights. We always found a way to make it out alive.’ Shows how the boys aren't perfect people, how everyone makes them out to be but they still cared for each other even with the ‘rumours’ of the band breaking up which turned out to be true.
Louis Tomlinson sings ‘Mini Bars, expensive cars, hotel rooms and new tattoos. The good champagne and private planes, they don't mean anything’ Tells us how grounded they were as teens to adults. They do not care about the materialistic aspects of being in the world's biggest boy band.
He continues, ‘Without you here, life is just lie’ is them saying they would be nothing with their fandom.
‘This is not the end, this is not the end, we can make it, you know it, you know it, you know’ is telling us that this is not the end of the band and we know it. -
I believe this song is all about fans and 1d members because if you look at the lyrics closely you will find out.Harry and Niall being the fans coming from one side and Louis and Liam being 1d coming from the other side.this song has nothing to do with Zayn Malik.
This song is dedicated to directioners who are still waiting because they said they will live forever in their last lyrics... -
Is history about zayn?
-
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
-
They said it's about the fans but it's probably about them as a band and zayn
