Pink: What About Us Meaning
Song Released: 2017
What About Us Lyrics
Da-da-da
We are searchlights, we can see in the dark
We are rockets, pointed up at the stars
We are billions of beautiful hearts
And you sold us down the river too far
What about us?
What about all the...

I think this song was written to express that P!NK is fed up with the current political climate in the USA. Not just Trump, but all of the dishonest and bigoted politicians and our broken system. she was an active supporter of Hillary Clinton and said regarding Donald Trump, "there are no words for this shameful person"
specific references:
problems that want to be solved- healthcare and the whole repeal-and-rip-off debacle and how we were depending on our "leaders" to help us.
children who need to be loved- I think this is a reference to Dreamers.
came when you called- the many who were convinced that Trump was in their best interests.
that's my interpretation. what's yours? -

The people who are suggesting this is about President Trump clearly didn’t pay attention to the lyrics. Pink says billions of people, and there aren’t billions of people in the United States. More obvious than that, this song came out right at the beginning of his presidency, so how could there have been failed promises when he had only been president for a few months? If you want to say this is about a president, the song could’ve been written about President Obama. Many, many people “answered the call” to campaign and vote for him. He had eight years in office and his promises of bringing racial relations together, improving the economy and getting us out of Afghanistan were not kept. So it’s more likely about Obama than Trump. But in general, I think this song is about leadership or religions or whatever you want it to be about. It’s not about one specific person.

In a way, this song can pertain to God as well as failed governments(Trump Administration). It's not Anti-Theism, it's more of a God where are you, we are dying. In another way it could be a government you have failed us, what are you going to do about it?

I came to love this song the first time I heard it and another time when the trailer for the new movie "Every Day" came out. But after hearing it almost every hour in my earphones I started doubting the lyrics. I think the meaning is directed towards God, blaming Him about their pain and all things that dont go their way. It's like they are seeing God as the one to be blamed for their suffering. But I dont know, when all they can see is their suffering they lose sight of God's love and goodness, right?
-
For me it's a song about the government she can't say that for god :
(What about all the plans that ended in disaster?)
And:
(Sticks and stones, they may break these bones
But then I'll be ready, are you ready?
It's the start of us, waking up come on
Are you ready? I'll be ready
I don't want control, I want to let go
Are you ready? I'll be ready
'Cause now it's time to let them know
We are ready, what about us?)
I think for the presedent -
Pink explains us very clearly what it's all about in a very clear TV interview. It's about governments in general and specifically the Trump administration that has failed its people. Everyone around the world understand the lyrics perfectly clear (except American) and there is no need to bring God, gun control, immigration or the communist in the picture. (So typically American again)
In a democratic country, We the people vote for ideas and leaders that have the power to translate people wishes into actions, and when they don't, they fail us. She reminds us that the power was given by the people and we will be ready to take it back anytime from those who abuse our trust . -
When examined critically, This clearly is directed to God. But it is entirely possible that Pink herself thinks that it's about the government.
In my experience, liberal minded people tend to have a communistic or a collective way of thinking about their personal lives; where others, namely the government, are held responsible for their actions, self protection, and lives in general, and not them. This is why they tend toward big governments with massive control of individuals; which run the risk of becoming a dictatorship. State run schooling over home schooling, welfare programs and wage equality(also welfare), huge child welfare programs, and the removal of the right to self defense with lethal force.
So with that in mind, it makes sense that pink somehow thinks that the government has something to do with the individuals lives. "We are problems that want to be solved. We are children that need to be loved"
Now that aside, it needs to be said: that God does have rules that need to be followed, starting with the Ten Commandments, and ending with, Love God and "Love thy neighbor as thyself". But Pink and every one else, has no time for God's rule in their lives. But boy do they love to accuse him when they screw up, and reap what they sow. God's promises apply to those who love him, not hate him: and to those who do what the bible says. -
I thought she as definitely upset with God,but Satan is the king of liars and sets people to fail.
-
I thought she was addressing Hillary And the DNC for their loss and the feeling of being left to fend for themselves.

It's about marginalized people in the US. The song is talking about how minorities of all kinds are promised things and the government never delivers.
It's about Native Americans having treaty after treaty broken. It's about African Americans never getting appropriate reparations. It's about antiquated view about consent, healthcare, and pay for women. It's about respecting everyone's right to love who they want to love. It's about taking care of our sick, disabled, and veterans.
It's about giving everything to the US and it still not being seen, heard, or cared for.
When she sings we came when you called she is referring to all who help the US (serving in the military mainly) and coming home to the same lack or rights. -
God by definition is the essence of good. God cannot do evil to creation. Evil comes from the forces of evil. What about us is a plea to all those people and institutions that cause pain and suffering through their selfishness and self promotion to change their ways. It applies to presidents and paupers, poets and priests, prostitues and professors in short all of us when we neglect to care for those around us. In fact if we all loved good and our neighbour the world would be great. X

She tells us...

I think it is about realizing that god is either indifferent about the pain of the human kind or powerless to do anything. She is singing to him, and is beginning to doubt his goodness asking why does he get all the glory even when most people are suffering "What about us?"
