Pink: What About Us Meaning
Song Released: 2017
What About Us Lyrics
Da-da-da
We are searchlights, we can see in the dark
We are rockets, pointed up at the stars
We are billions of beautiful hearts
And you sold us down the river too far
What about us?
What about all the...

Having read the lyrics and watched the video, this is about those powerless billions, seeking help from the rich and powerful in ALL nations. We see,on the 24hr news that the rich and powerful have big plans for the future but those in need are often not included. Our representatives in government have promised much and come through on little. Instead, they raise taxes on the middle class and cut programs for the poor for their own further enrichment. This is a cry from the disenfranchised and a reminder to those in power that billions are suffering from their behavior!

She said Billions of people, so that would be the human race and is talking to one. Therefore i think it's God.
-
This song is about Enki who made us for their purposes. We even took place in their wars. And now they left. And now what wil happen to humanity. Are we going to continue wars in their footsteps
-
Addressing God, wondering whether He's really there for us all equally. Difficulties experienced by some people, leave us questioning God's existence and His all-caring nature as preached.
-
It's obviously about God, but here's a question you might want to ask yourself, what if God was one of us, he would probably be pretty fed up himself, with us, and maybe being in a human body, he would find it pretty hard being everything to everyone, not to mention everywhere at the same time.

I instantly thought, oh its about God. I was surprised because I first heard it on a Christian radio. I have heard all of the other interpretations people have had and they all have a lot of meaning but I think this translation about God makes most sense.
Overall I think its about people realising that this Christianity thing isn't all we are told it is and we are asking God whether He really cares because we are now willing to let go. Personally I believe in Christianity and I have seen this same theme in my life. It seems like God something's cares, sometimes heals. But it seems he cares about others more than me or is not fully in control. I see no problem in the Christian moral system shown in the Bible and I can't seem to understand a world complex as ours existing without God but I can't understand how he really cares.
Below is a verse by verse interpretation I have made.
Verse 1
We are people that are searching for answers. It seems like we have accepted Christianity an have gone deep into understanding it but we realise that it seems hypocritical after we're are too deep into it or "sold down the river too far."
Chorus
Directly addressing God.
What about the relationship we have (or had).
What about the answers you said you have for us.
We are broken but you said we would have a happy ever after.
What about that plan (called earth and Jesus) that seems to have ended in disaster.
What about the love and trust between us?
Verse 2
We all have problematic lives that we want to solve.
We are children (whether of God or people) that are looking for love.
We were willing for this love and solving our lives so we came when God called.
It seems God fooled us and we are now realising this and saying "enough is enough."
Bridge
Seems almost like a taunt to God.
Things in this life (sticks and stones) may hurt us. Is God ready for us to Be hurt?
We are waking up to realising God doesn't seem to be there. Is He ready for this disbelief? We will be.
We dont want control of our lives, we want to let go so God can take control. (Or we want to get away from Gods control). We will be ready, is God ready?
It is now time to let them (God, Jesus, Holy Spirit) know we are ready to let go of them.
Tag (what about us?)
What about us could be understood as what about our relationship. -
"Children needing to be loved"...definitely talking to God. Feeling like He has forsaken us.
-
Sounds like she was talking about Obama. Everything he said and failed us.

There could be several meanings to this song. It's all about interpretation. It could be talking to God. It could be talking about a specific problem in society. It could be about politics. It could be towards the President which I may not agree with. I believe Pink might have meant this to be a song for a person to take it how they need to take it. It should mean what a person wants it to mean rather than it be one specific thing. It could also be something with many meanings for the song to cover a variety of subjects.

Because of the rising lgbt concerns and the teen depressions and suicides ect. I think she's asking what about the care for us since you're supposed to treat everyone equally
-
My first reaction was political and about the current administration too but after seeing part of the video I think it could be so much bigger. I could be the homeless population, Parents of teens they have lost to drugs, suicide or just to life. It could reflect the mentally ill, the middle class who work, pay taxes and are losing the battle, senior citizens....the list goes on and on.
Great song to make us think about so many needy groups!!!!
