Placebo: Protege Moi Meaning
Protege Moi Lyrics
L'épidémie qui s'étend
La fête est finie on descend
Les pensées qui glacent la raison
Paupières baissées, visage gris
Surgissent les fantômes de notre lit
On ouvre le loquet de la grille
Du taudis qu'on...

I think this song is about something else. Something disastrous what is upcoming. I think only Brian knows what is it.

THe songs translates as:
It's the disease of the age
It's the disease that we crave
Alone at the end of the rave
We catch the last bus home
Corporate America wakes
Coffee republic and cakes
We open the latch on the gate
Of the hole that we call our home
Protect me from what I want...
Protect me protect me
Maybe we're victims of fate
Remember when we'd celebrate
We'd drink and get high until late
And now we're all alone
Wedding bells ain't gonna chime
With both of us guilty of crime
And both of us sentenced to time
And now we're all alone
Protect me from what I want...
Protect me protect me
Protect me from what I want...
Protect me protect me
Protect me from what I want...
Protect me protect me
Protect me from what I want...
Protect me protect me
I know this cos it was sung in English on Placebo's album "sleeping with Ghosts".
A lot of people say this song is about drugs, which is agreeable at first glance, but personally I think it's also about sex.
How two people (a couple who live together) go out and have a wild night, fuelled with drugs, then go home.
"wedding bells ain't gonna chime" implies to me it's the lifestyle and the sex, rather than love, that keep these two together. It may also be a reference to gay sex and (at the time) gay couples couldn't marry. -
It's the weakness of the moment, the epidemic which stretches it. The holiday is over, they go down. The thoughts which freeze the reason; eyelids lowered, grey face-- the ghosts of our bed come into sight. They open the lock of the gate of the hovel they call their home. Protect me from what I want, protect me. Are we the toys of destiny?? You remember the divine moments-- plants bursting in the morning?? And now we are all alone. Lost, the dreams to like of itself; the times when they had nothing made. We stay for a while life for crying, and now we are all alone.
