April 24, 1981/ My Father's Chair Lyrics
How far does the spirit travel on the journey
You must surely be near heaven, and it thrills me to the bone, to know
Daddy knows the great unknown
-
"These songs were written to honor my dad. I wrote the first song because I had to get something out after he died. I had to put something on paper. Later I started focusin on what he left behind. His physical attachments. There was a favorite chair my dad used to sit in. I sarted writing and had pages and pages of verses. I resisted finishing the song because I knew it was going to be painful. One day I just sat down at the piano and cried all day and wrote 'My Father's Chair'" ~Rick Springfield from the Anthology Written In Rock
