Sara Bareilles: King of Anything Meaning
King of Anything Lyrics
stare me down across the table,
while I look outside.
So many things I'd say if only I were able,
but I just keep quiet and count the cars as they pass by.
You've got opinions, man,
we're all entitled to 'em,
but I...

1TOP RATED
#1 top rated interpretation:She wants to do what she wants for once instead of others always telling her you should do this you can't do that. I feel that way. I want to become a actress but my parents want me to become a doctor because it is good money what about my happiness.

This song is about not letting other people control you and how you can make depictions and live your life. It’s a great song.
-
Entitled kid tells parents to get off their back about sleeping around and doing drugs...that's all of I can think of when I hear this song honestly. Every selfish brat I ever knew in high school who ruined their life because they thought they knew better then everyone else who tried to warn them they were heading down a bad path.

Again, everyone gets a different meaning behind a song...that's what's so great about music....it can mean many things to many people. the first stanza I felt like it was a relationship that had just ended. they are at a coffee shop and he's talking and lookin at her. she probably is not a mean person and "if you can't say something nice, don't say nothin at all" type of girl. She doesn't look at him bc she lost the love she once had for this person and all she sees is pain when she looks at them.
Seems like he's putting his two cents in on why they should get back together bc she is miserable without him...when in reality she is fine, it is only when he is around that she is so aggrevated with what she can't say to him like "GO AWAY @$$HOLE". She doesn't seem to be happy with the way things were in the relationship and can only see the bad in him with no hope for "their" future together.
third stanza, he's trying to get her back, and she's telling him that she's ok...she doesn't need him.
4th: Had she changed so much in the relationship that when it was over she found who she really was and wanted to be. was he manipulating? She doesn't care anymore about disagreeing with him. And obviously doesn't want him telling her who she should or should not be with.
5th: The other person is probably a looker and is very sly with his words. She will not follow him or be with him just because he says he has changed or it's for the best. she will do what she wants, not what he or anyone else tells her to do with her life. she doesn't want to have to pretend that thigns are perfect. (delusional sunset)
6th stanza explains a lot: sounds like she broke it off because she wants more outa life. so she knows she is over this relationship. but he doesn't see it. he doesn't understand why she won't give him another chance, or try because he is blinded by love and imagining them doing everything together all the time. sounds like he used to be the one talking all the time....and anytime she talked he just blew it off or didn't pay attention...or didn't listen.
this stanza spoke to me the most. it was like this song was meant for me.
All my life
I've tried
to make everybody happy while I
just hurt and hide,
waiting for someone to tell me it's my turn
to decide.
seems like in the relationship she did everythign he asked to make him happy....but never got anythign she wanted. someone must have came into her life for just a moment and pointed that out. (hind sight is 20/20) and when she realized taht she was not happy she stoood up for herself.
point blank. she is telling him he does not control her, she asked for his crown bc she is the king of her own life. -
About leaving an abusive relationship and finally realizing you do have a say in things and it's not all about doing what the other person tells you for fear of retribution.
