Sara Bareilles: Fairytale Meaning
Fairytale Lyrics
She's got a
Crush on the guy at the liquor store
Cause Mr. Charming don't come home anymore
And she forgets why she came here
Sleeping Beauty's in a foul mood
For shame she says
None for you dear prince,...

hmmm... i think the song simply tells that in reality, fairy tale endings are just the beginning of more complex and complicated stories of love and life... reality actually sucks... the princesses mentioned in the song are actually different women who have had their so called fairy tale endings and ended up with complications on their relationships... they may have married the man of their dreams but they are currently facing a more complicated situation... husband does not come home anymore, wife got tired of her husband's face, etc... Sara mentioned about a maiden waiting for the next best thing... i think she's talking about herself on this... on how she thinks that choosing your life partner is not just like how you base things on a fairy tale but on how things will work out in reality with the both of you after you get married...

I think it seems like Sara is talking about how we focus so much on the girl finding her prince charming without thinking sometimes they might want more than the first guy to sweep them off their feet. Maybe it's more about how your own fairytale might not be the same as the next person's.

I think this song is about how fairytales never happen. She has come to terms with the fact that she'll never get that fairytales " happy ending" you see I'm the movies. Even when it seems like that at first, that will not last long.
-
I think it's about what happens after "happily ever after". But also about independence. How the maiden shouldn't sit around waiting for Prince Charming to come save her, that she can save/take care of herself. "She's only waiting on the next best thing" means how she shouldn't settle for the first guy to come along.
-
I don't think that she doesn't like the old fairy tales, but that they are all the same: the girl meets her prince charming and they fall madly in love and live happily ever after.I think that she's just tired about the same ending over and over.
-
I think this song is about crushing on and dating every new guy that shows up and that she throws them away when the next 'best' guy shows up
