Seether: The Gift Meaning
Song Released: 2006
The Gift Lyrics
Like I never wanted anything
I suppose I'll let this go and find a reason I'll hold on to
I'm so ashamed of defeat
And I'm out of reason to believe in me
I'm out of trying to get by
I'm so afraid of the...

I'm no religion freek, but I think he feels a need for god. Somehow he knows that god e exists and Denys himself that relationship. He's ashamed of it because he feels that his success was " the gift " and should be Credited god but feels weird saying it...
Now listen to it with that in mind. -
My interpretation is suffering the long term effects of abuse and trying to break free, without success. "I'm so afraid of the gift you give me
I don't belong here and I'm not well" The gift being life, or another chance at it and I don't belong here and I'm not well is confirmation of giving up with acknowledgment to depression. -

I think the song is about a man who tought he was doomed from the beginnig, a man who thought his life would never get any better , it turned him toward alcohol. no matter how many love him his mind raced. He had overcome a lot but still the past always came back to haunt him, and in the end he gave up. This song was one of my cousins favorites I guess it reminded him of his own life and on april 21,2008 he took his own life he was found in the woods the next day he had hung himself. He left behind a son and 3 daughters and a loving wife who tried with everything she had to help him but he couldnt be helped. They played this song at his funeral I guess because it explained alot. We will miss him dearly.

Shaun abused Amy Lee while they were together, not sure if he had abused his other girlfriends as well but I'm certain that this song is about him abusing women.
I'm so afraid of the gift you give me
I don't belong here and I'm not well
I'm so ashamed of the path I'm living on
I'm right on the wrong side of it all
The gift simply being love and affection
him not being well would probably be being an alcoholic and abusing women
And who wouldn't be ashamed for living like that?
This is just my opinion.. -
This song ,to me, is about the felling of loneliness among other things as being hurt in a relationship or being ashamed to the point to where ypu can't look at yourself in the mirror.Shaun Morgan said that he rather have the person who listens to the bands songs have their own thoughts on what the band's songs mean to them ...and I agree. This song is for my long lost true love since we both fell in love with each other and this song.I love forever.

Ok look Shaun has already said himself the video has nothing to do with the song. So yes the song may be about woman abuse or whatever but it has nothing to do with him abusing the little girl in the video. The video is just about Dia De Los Muertos and how they find it cool that they celebrate the dead.
-
I think that the song is about someone being a dad but not ever caring about the girl and the wife and girl move away then he gets the message about this and goes there and the people do not approve him because he did not do nothing for the girl hense when he says "like I matter to the one I need" this is a great song but can mean a lot of different things
-
I think the video looks like it's about him abusing the little girl, to death, as previously inquired, and her mother (his wife maybe?) knows and is upset. Perhaps everyone's disgusted by his actions (hence when he shakes the man's hand, the man wipes it off on his pants). He's ashamed of what he did and builds a very small version of the traditional "shrine" in her honor. He continues to be haunted by the girl. HOWEVER...that's just what I think...or rather...have added up.
