   I think this song is about guy who's in love with a girl who has a bad reputation. And everyone around that girl is being so quick to judge her based off her appearance. But the guy knows that the girl has been through hell and back. And doesn't care what people think of her and all he wants is her (the real her)

   I think this song is about a girl who accidentally makes a bad choice that changes how everyone looks at her and they think she's awful but Shawn is able to see she's more than the mistake that she made and that she's truly sorry and he loves her.

   Based on the music video, it looks like Shawn is falling in love with a girl with a bad reputation (obviously). It seems like her life was good, she had friends, she had everything. But then in the middle of the night, there is a car crash. There were 5 girls in the car, but only 2 are seen running from it. From that devastating loss, she started to look for approval from others, no matter what she had to do. She did things that made her feel wanted. Eventually, rumors were spread that she sleeps with everyone, so on and so on. Shawn gets to know her and realizes why she does these things. It's absolutely terrible. He doesn't care what everyone says, because he knows what really happened.
   
   I'm curious if this is a real story from Shawn of if it's some time of metaphor.

   I think that the meaning of Bad Reputation is about a girl that has lived her life full of hate and depression.I don't know maybe something like being physically/sexually Harrass in The past and the whole School knows or maybe she was forced to send nudes or something like that. But this guy likes her.Because in the song it talks about how all his friends seen her naked.And well a guy loves her no matter what. So this guy that likes her has seen her being Judge of what has happened to her and treated badly.The guy that likes her is hearing and seening all this that is happening.So this guy is trying to help her out and treat her like a lady. Also maybe trying to help her let go of The past and live her Life. So he is trying to making her understand that she is important no matter what and he loves her for who she is no matter what People say about her.

The boy likes this girl but his friends are always talking badly about her and he’s scared to disappoint them. Through all the stress and humiliation the girl decides to kill herself just before the boy does speak up about his feelings for her which could have saved her life.”

   Ok. I think it’s story about trans girls.
   Ik Ik Shawn is straight.
   But when he say “I will treat you like a lady” maybe it is about trans girl with some issue.
   And he says “I don’t care what they say” maybe his friends said that she is not a girl. But Shawn repeat again and again that he love her no matter what they say.

   I feel like this song is about a girl who maybe has a controversial past and rumours have been spread about her that may or may not be right and is now seen as having a ‘bad reputation’ and despite what he hears about her he doesn’t care because he wants to be with her

    i think this song is about a girl who always has to dump her boyfriends because they cheat her. The guys then cause rumors about her that make her have a bad reputation. Shawn sees the truth in her and wants to be the right guy for her.-lol...i <3 this song and Shawn Mendes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
