Snow Patrol: Chasing Cars Meaning
Chasing Cars Lyrics
Everything
On our own
We don't need
Anything
Or anyone
If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?
I don't quite know
How to say
How I feel
Those three words
Are said too...

She's dead. Watch the video. He's talking to someone he loved who is dead.

My interpretation of this piece is...Looking past the world and it's entirety and seeing only one person. Even when everything else is so beautiful and prosperous; that one person will mean more than the world itself. To be that person being looked upon as something more important than the world would mean being the world. The line "Would You lie with me; And just forget the world", To me it shows, would the person be next to the person being looked upon as the world..give up their world just to be with the other.

This song to me means - a love of 2 people you are so in love with someone you can't just describe them and by saying those 3 words arnt enough saying I love you isn't enough to tell them how much you adore them etc
This song has a strong meaning for me and my fiancé its our song as we met through racing cars (chasing cars) and we lie down together on the bed or on the ground looking at the stars and just forget everything if we have had a bad etc as long as we have each other nothing else matters. We have done everything on our own to get where we are in life and people said we would work out together we would be split up in 6 months and we have proved people wrong we are stronger than ever. -
Love has been categorized and simplified by our daily lives living in a world that if full of strife and cynicism. This song expresses how powerful and simple love really is. If you are in love, you don't need anyone or anything except the person that you share the purity with. It is like a bright light, drowning out everything around us. It is so beautiful we are drawn to it but sometimes afraid to let the light shine on us. Everyone of us interprets love differently only knowing what we are taught and many times we will go our entire lives never experiencing it because we never really take the time to feel it. We never know when we will meet our soul mate or what we will have going on in our lives at the time, but to take the chance and make changes takes a great amount of trust and emotion. A garden of new life blooms, each flower delicate and precious we need to appreciate each one for what it is. To express to someone that you love them opens us up our inner self. How do you put into words how you feel about that other person. Sometimes it is suiting to lay there and share the moment, leaving everything that we know behind us. Being in the presence of our true love confirms our desire and need to live our life to its fullest. No matter how much we think of ourselves, this person can bring us right back to the reality of what we are. Chasing cars simplifies the complications of life, we all have things that we strive for maybe to never get them, but to share in the chase together unites two minds as one sharing the same goal. To live is to learn, to love is to live.

This song is about two people who are very much in love - they have that "untouchable" feeling that you get when you fall really deeply for a person. They don't need anyone or anything because to the two of them, each other is all they really need. They don't want to cheapen the phrase "I love you" because while its true, it truly doesn't encompass the way they feel. Maybe they've been told they aren't right for each other, but they don't care and want to see what becomes of what they have. She When they are together they can lose themselves in each other and forget everything going on around them. They don't care what they do, even if it is wasting time, they only want to be with the other person. He adores the way she brings out the good in him and is reminded of how she makes him a better person every time he looks in her eyes. She consumes his thoughs and he can't remember where it happened, or how it happened, he just knows he's fallen in love with her and that's enough.
Thanks for listening-

I believe this song is about a deep love, a longing. A love so deep that the man gets lost, that he wants to get lost with her, to share the feeling. Even more so it's a tale about running away with this love, to be solely with the other person regardless of what everyone around them is saying. The best part is the "Show me a garden that's bursting into life.", one can only ascertain that this is a invitation for having a baby together, it's really sweet. =D

Whenever I hear this song, I think that it's about two people who are in love but who are having problems caused by the pressures put on them by the world (romeo and juliet type stuff - maybe they aren't a good match for some reason that society imposes on them).
He wants her to lay with him so that they can just be together and for a moment, forget everything that they are told about why they won't work.
I think the chasing cars is meant to conjure images of a dog chasing a car, in the spirit that it is endless, impossible and yet fun, hopeful and a bit crazy. Similar to their relationship (except that it is "in their heads" rather than in the actual physical act of chasing cars).
I definitely would also see the interpretation of it as being a guy who wants a girl but can't get her for reasons unknown, however the line about her grace makes me think that he knows her well.
just my thoughts, I think the beautiful thing about lyrics is that they really mean whatever they mean to you, and the song represents whatever you are going through at the time! -

It's about a bloke who wants someone who would drop everything to be with him. He wants somebody he can be with and adore but he can't quite get her.
He's chasing cars is symbolic of how he is chasing something he will never quite catch. Cars are just too hard to keep up with in the long run. He will never have that but while the "car" is starting up they're slow. Maybe he is talking about how he has to seize the opportunity to chase the car now while he can before it speeds up and he won't be able to catch somebody who would love him like he needs them to. -
I love this song! To me it is about an affair....two people who come from different worlds and when they are together everything else in their worlds fade. Chasing cars could be something that they will never catch but still nice to think of! Those three words, (I Love You) but if they say them to each other its too much said because they both have others.

I think this song is about finding true love (I know, it sounds cheesy). Just finding someone who will go to the ends of the earth for you, and how special that person is.
-
I think it's about wasting time, just being with the person you love and doing nothing, just being together and being happy doing nothing, not worrying about other people or circumstances. I love this song so much.

I totally agree with everyone who thinks this has something to do with dogs. After my recent divorce its just me and the dog. We are all we have for each other. Three words mean nothing to him because he doesn't speak english. He does however, chase cars. And he will lay here with me, and just forget the world. - Kristie
