Black Hole Sun Lyrics
Indisposed
In disguise
As no one knows
Hides the face
Lies the snake
The sun
In my disgrace
Boiling heat
Summer stench
’neath the black
The sky looks dead
Call my name
Through the cream
And I’ll hear you
Scream...
-
Black Hole Sun is about relations between man and god. "In my eyes, in disposed, in disguise that know one knows"(he is everywhere in plain sight), "hides the face, lies the snake, the sun in my disgrace"(he is bringer of both good and evel, and most of all he is THE SUN!-son of god, GOD OF SUN)The sun-bringer of life, black holes-consuming everything. "black hole sun, wont you come, and wash away the rain"(rain-damp, cold. wash away-clean up the evilness of the world as we can not do it ourselfs)"times are gone for hounest men, and sometimes far to long for snakes"(people have morally lost there way as a society)"In my shoes, A walking sleep And my youth I pray to keep, heaven send hell away, no one sings like you anymore"(things are so bad, there is nothing that hounest men can do about it, and for the disshounest, hevan and hell means nothing to them)"Hang my head, Drown my fear, Till you all just Disappear."(this mans faith in humanity is gone.)

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
-
it isn't about anything.
I would think that is clear. -
Chris Cornell said he wrote the lyrics to match the music, and that it really doesn't mean anything on rockline years ago.

It's about the end of the world. The wicked who took no note of god are destroyed. But this song is sad and gives no hope with it....
"in my eyes
indisposed
in disguise
as no one knows
hides the face
lies the snake
the sun
in my disgrace" = evil has infiltrated mankind (reference to sun/snake god which is pagan).
"times are gone
for honest men
and sometimes
far too long
for snakes" = world is full of bad people and the evil spirits are soon to be destroyed also.
"in my shoes
a walking sleep
and my youth
i pray to keep
heaven send
hell away" = most sleep walk through life (do a reality check) just wishing paradice had not been lost (eternal youth), hell means death (thats all it means, not buring forever).
"no one sings
like you
anymore" = if he dies; no one will sing like him anymore.
"hang my head
drown my fear
till you all just
disappear" = he keeps hiding from the inevitable and pretending there is hope. In fact although the lyrics do not say it, there is hope if he would repent and worship the true god. -
This song is awesome. Takes me back to high school. I think it's about someone who doesn't want to come to terms with who they have become. I think also Chris is saying that People suck you dry. Or it could mean the dark side of his personality is dragging him down, It is defenitely an internal conflict, longing for simplicity and normality.. Maybe he is speaking of the state of the human race also and longing to be threw with it. Hence, Black hole sun, Speaking of a Huge End or Void...

i wonder if anyone else picks up on some sexual references in these enigmatic lyrics? \"call my name through the cream..and i\'ll hear you scream again\"? (reference to a woman calling his name, screaming/moaning during intercourse?) are \"black hole sun\" and \"snakes\" sort of phallic references? that would give the phrase \"won\'t you come?\" an entirely different twist. if you think about it that way maybe the song could be about a man kinda disgusted with himself and the world because of how casual, superficial and meaningless sex and relationships have become. also it sounds to me like when he\'s feeling empty (\"stuttering, cold and damp\") he reminisces about more innocent times (\"in my youth...\") when he would pray for good to overcome evil (\"heaven sent hell away\") - back in the days maybe when his mother used to sing him to sleep? (\"no one sings like you anymore\"). but it\'s too late to turn back the hands of time - he\'s a jaded, hardened, cynical man who manipulates and decieves others just as they have manipulated and decieved him (\"in disguise as no one knows, hides the face, lies the snake\") and he is devoid of \"good\" things like love, compassion, integrity, intimacy....in his eyes people just aren\'t that way anymore (\"times are gone for honest men and far too long for snakes\"). his innocent, idealistic self is totally submerged - he walks through life like a zombie (\"in my shoes a walking sleep\"). lastly, when he says \"hang my head, drown my fear til you all just disappear\" - maybe he\'s hanging his head in shame but also because he doesn\'t want to be confronted with his ultimate fear - that he is indeed surrounded by \"snakes\" who are just like him. he wants it to just go away - disappear.
