Taylor Swift: All You Had To Do Was Stay Meaning
All You Had To Do Was Stay Lyrics
-
This song seems to be about Taylor and her partner who grew apart or broke up for some reason. It is her saying "all you had to do was stay," suggesting that things would have been OK if they hadn't broken up and that they could still be together if they had stayed and tried to work things out. A line from it also says "now you say you want me back," which one has to assume is the person trying to work things out once it is already to late.
-
I think this song is about how the paparazzi and the public always try to get the gossip on the relationships Taylor is in. "I know places we can hide" from the people intervening in her life and making assumptions. She wants to protect her partner from the press but also dreadfully wants to be with her partner.
-
It was written by Swift and Max Martin.

I think for this personal album to give people to help out. The giving out music is very good, you’ll see it.

All you had to do was stay is one of my favorite songs from 1989.
This song is about how Someone from her past comes up again and is asking for her back she's unsure how to react.
"Here you are now calling me up but I don't know what to say"
It's been quite some time since this relationship ended and yes at one point he was all she wanted and would have done anything but now that It's been sometime she's realized that she doesn't want him if she has to beg for him.
"You were all I wanted but not like this"
In a way she's mad because when she wanted him he wasn't there but now that it's the opposite he expects her to come back so easily, as if it had no affect on her.
This song shows how much Taylor has changed
Before Taylor states numerous times that she'd do anything to get the guy she loves back
But now she realizes her worth and won't jump back into something regardless of if she can or now. -
In this song Taylor is explaining that this guy wants back what they use to have after he gave it away and pushed it aside. However Taylor doesn't want to reconcile with him. She does admit that he was all she wanted and some point, but she doesn't want him like this, she'e also letting him now that he shouldn't have left thinking that he could just come back and pick things up where they were left off.
-
This song is about a guy that she liked but he left. Now he wants her back but she says 'it's over you ended it, you were all I wanted but not like this, not like this'
Lesson learned don't leave if you want them!
This guy is a jerk and loser. She can do a lot better then him. Who ever he is.
