Long Live Lyrics
The time we stood with our shaking hands
The crowds and stands went wild
We were the Kings and the Queens
And they read off our names
The night you danced like you knew our lives
Would...

#1 top rated interpretation:In an interview she said it was about her and her band after winning artist of the year. Many people didnt agree with her winning which she makes clear by saying "the cynics were outraged screaming this is absurd." also the part where she says they read off our names was when they read her name off when she won the award. Also she won the award in 2010 "it was an end of a decade.."

#2 top rated interpretation:I was at her concert on june 4th and she even said this, im just going into greater detail about the lines and everything.
well, yes if you all are wondering, this song is about the relationship between her, her band & her fans. She wrote this song while she was on her 'Fearless' world tour. She remembered, how right before she went on stage
'I still remember this moment
In the back of my mind
The time we stood with our shaking hands
The crowds in stands went wild'
standing and listening to all the fans scream her name, and she would always remember that moment.
'We were the kings and the queens
And they read off our names
The night you danced like you knew our lives, would never be the same'
the kings and the queens part is showing an emotion, the felt like royalty and everyone praising them, and 'dance like....' meant from the first time they would step on stage to preform, sing and dance, they new from that point their lives would never be the same.
'You held your head like a hero
On a history book page
It was the end of a decade
But the start of an age'
this line can have many interpretations, but basically, they help their heads with pride like they were special and important like part of history and somethings might be bad, and times are ending, but music will always behold an new time.
(chorus explained at bottom)
'I said, remember this feeling
I passed the pictures around
Of all the years that we stood there on the sidelines,Wishing for right now'
She was going back to the time b4 she was famous, remembering how she dream-pt and how she longed to be heard, wishing for what she has right now.
'We are the kings and the queens
You traded your baseball cap for a crown
When they gave us our trophies
And we held them up for our town'
again feeling like there important, leaders. they traded friends, school, there past to be famous and travel the world to be a band.'gave us our...' showed people there talent, for there family to be proud.
'And the cynics were outraged
Screaming, this is absurd
'Cause for a moment a band of thieves
In ripped-up jeans got to rule the world'
people werent actually outraged, but they are showing what people might feel when they see a bunch of scrawgy kids are now at the top of the world, and everyone knows about them, as if they ruled the world.
(chorus)
'Hold on to spinning around
Confetti falls to the ground
May these memories break or fall'
holding on to the memories as at the end or concerts confetti falls to the ground and the memories can stay in there memories forever or be forgotten
And you take a moment
Promise me this
That you'll stand by me forever
But if God forbid fate should step in
she's talking to her fans and band here. Asking them to always be by her side but if fate should ever step in.
And force us into a goodbye
If you have children someday
When they point to the pictures
Please tell them my name
band & fans. As in the band separating and no more concerts for fans to go too, That they will keep their promise, so when a new generation comes in, if the see a picture of here the name, etc. that they will tell them of her.
'Tell them how the crowds went wild
Tell them how I hope they shine'
Tell them of her music and the relationship they shared, and that one day when they grow up, she hopes they'll follow their dream and they'll succeed and be the best of the best.
Chorus:
'Long, long live the walls we crashed through
All the kingdom lights shined just for me and you
And I was screaming, long live all the magic we made
And bring on all the pretenders, I'm not afraid
Singing, long live all the mountains we moved
I had the time of my life fighting dragons with you
And long, long live the look on your face
And bring on all the pretenders, one day we will be remembered'
She saying long live all the memories she and her band made, the lives the helped and brightened when they needed a hand, and all those people that dont like her music? to bring it on, tell her how much they dont like her, because she has all the happiness she needs from her memories.
long live all the things that they changed together and she had so much fun singing and creating music with you. and long live, the happiness you had listening to her music and seeing her.(again)and all those people that dont like her music? to bring it on, tell her how much they dont like her, because she has all the happiness she needs from her memories, and if the promises are kept, in the future, they'll always be remembered.
so thats basically it, hope that clarifies! and i saying this again, she said herself that it was about her experience as a singer/ -

#3 top rated interpretation:It's about her band, team and fans who made her life possible. That's what she said in the interview.

On her reputation stadium tour concert in Dallas she said it was ab her fans

I think that it could be about her band, but also could be about a boy and girl who are really close friends for a long time but always know they've wanted something more. Finally something becomes of the friendship.. everyone assumed something was going to become of these two people because they've always looked right together. Once the girl finally has the chance to have a potential future with this boy, she tells him of how it's been complicated and if they're not still together, to tell his children etc. 'Was the end of a decade, but the start of an age' implies that the long friendship was coming to and end and turning into something more and something much longer. I love this song so much.

Long Live is about dedicating her thoughts to her fans. Taylor appreciates all the support an she decided to write a song about it. She told us to remember to use our imagination and dream on. This is the true reason why she wanted us to listen to this song! :)
-
She got through her troubles and got an award or graduated high school. She got past the bullies!

I feel that this song is somehow related to the Percy Jackson books especially the fifth one. I mean " You held your head like a hero" and the stuff about the dragons, magic, adventure and Annabeth's baseball cap. Even though I don't think Taylor Swift read the series, this is what I see
-
I think that Long Live is about those groups of people that you can spend so much time with, but eventually it comes to an end. You will be sad that it's over but you'll get over it and be happy because it happened. So many memories were made and will live on forever. Long Live.

Well to me this song is personall meaning, i'm only a 15 year old boy and before high school i was brutally bullied and became seriously depressed. When i got to high school I joined drama club and everyone was so welcoming and just so nice and just accepted me and for the "First Time" in my whole life i felt like i fit in somewhere. At my school everyone in drama has an emotional feeling with this song because the year before i was in high school, the fall play was a play called "Long Live Rock and Roll" and something really magical happened that year that we like to try and make happen every play. Someone thought that "Long Live" by Taylor Swift should be the song for the play "Long Live Rock and Roll". that's what i think of when i hear this song.
-
Some people at my camp told me it was about her becoming prom queeen.. the lyrics would make sense in that idea but it just seems so unlike Taylor to write a song about her becoming Prom Queen.
-
It's about her and her band winning all those awards and being very successful, and how if she and her band ever split up they always remember the memories they had together.
-
Would ir be wrong to say, Harry Potter? Just the whole fighting dragons, magic, and recognition for everything they'd done sorta makes me think about Harry Potter. But, yeah, it's probably about her band and and concerts and winning awards. Somehow, I just can't see Taylor writing about Harry Potter. :L
-
I know this is probally about her band and her as a singer, but I still think of harry potter long live all the magic we made :).

I think it's about the story of Taylor's and her band, which she tells it differently with fairytale style. "all the kingdom light shined" means the stage lights. "confetti falls to the ground" is like the end of a concert. "you held your head like a hero,on a history book page" means the expression of her band who won awards and they all will be written on history of music awards, just like "we will be remembered". -
This song to me is about small things doing extraordinary things. I think it is about remembering and cherishing the great moments and to not dwell on the bad.
